Parking Around Elmwood from the City of Naperville
The City has received and investigated a concern about parking near Elmwood Elementary School. A teardown/new home is being constructed at 342 Sycamore Drive (north side of Sycamore, west of Magnolia). Construction vehicles are parking (legally) on street in front of this house while work is being completed.
During dismissal, parents are parking on Sycamore directly across from the construction vehicles. This reduces the roadway width to be more narrow than is permitted. Drivers are obeying posted parking restrictions, but may be unaware that the City’s Code considers it unlawful to park/stand a vehicle “at any place where the standing of a vehicle will reduce the usable width of the roadway for moving traffic to less than eighteen (18) feet.” This is to ensure that vehicular traffic can transverse the area, as well as emergency vehicles.
Please be aware that if you are parking in this area, you may be subject to ticketing if found to be parking out of compliance with City Code. If there is already a large vehicle parked on one side of the road, parents should not be parking directly across from it.
Thank you very much; the Transportation Department appreciates your assistance in addressing this matter.

Transportation Project Manager – City of Naperville
Spring 2019 Testing Information
All students in Grades 2-8 will take the Performance Series test in Reading and Math January 10-16. Student reports will be sent home January 17. For students in Grades 3-7, data from Performance Series testing will be used to determine if a student qualifies for Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) testing.
The CogAT is an integrated series of tests that provides information on the level of development of general and specific cognitive skills of students. The primary purpose of the CogAT is to provide a description of the student’s own cognitive resources for learning that educators can use to help the student achieve instructional objectives. Currently, the CogAT is administered to all third grade students in the fall and all fourth grade students in the spring.
The secondary purpose of the CogAT is to identify students for gifted and academically talented programs. Academically talented students generally demonstrate the ability to use a variety of these complex thinking or problem solving attributes quickly and appropriately. Therefore, the CogAT scores are used in combination with other data to help identify students for district academically talented programs. For more information about academically talented services, visit www.naperville203.org/academicallytalented and save the date for the overview night on January 23, 2019.
The testing schedule is outlined below.
Performance Series testing in Grades 2-8 is January 10-16.
CogAT testing in the elementary schools is February 4-8.
* CogAT in third grade will be given to
- all Honors Math students.
- students who score a 90 NPR on the winter Performance Series in either math or reading.
* CogAT will be given to all fourth grade students.
* CogAT in fifth grade will be given to
- students who score a 90 NPR on the winter Performance Series math test if they are not already in Honors Math.
- students who score a 90 NPR on the winter Performance Series reading test if they are not already in PI.
- students who score a 90 NPR on the winter Performance Series math and reading test if they are not already in PI+.
If a student does not qualify for CogAT testing, then an appeal may be submitted by January 28. Additional information about the appeals process is available on the district website at https://www.naperville203.org/AcademicallyTalented/Page/5307.
An overview of Academically Talented and Gifted Services, including the timeline for the identification process, will be presented on January 23, 2019 at Naperville Central High School’s Little Theatre. Please see the flyer for additional information.

Elementary Golf School
Elementary Golf School is offering an exciting junior golf program at Elmwood School, designed to expose golf to juniors of all ability levels. This program is created and taught by PGA Professionals, to include lesson plans that are fun, safe, and educational. Youngsters will be given the opportunity to experiment with playing a variety of different shots. Our program teaches basic fundamentals, with plenty of variation for practicing and playing. We will not only teach the shots, but also the etiquette, behavior and finer points of the rules of the game. Our instructors will be able to adjust the level of complexity to each child’s individual level of progress.
For more information, or to register for the after school golf program at Elmwood School, please visit www.elementarygolfschool.com or call (630) 853-6348.
