Principal Post

Hello PJMS Families,

We’re nearing the end of September and with the calendar turning towards October, that means the end of the 1st quarter of the school year. It’s going by very quickly, but it’s always a good reminder that the end of 1st quarter is Friday, October 14th. You can always check on your student's progress by checking your ParentVue or having your child show you through their StudentVue links.

With the start of 2nd quarter that also means that 6th grade students will be going into PE classes while the 7th grade students will be in Health class for 2nd quarter.

We had a great Cross Country season that just finished up – Congrats to all the runners for participating this year. We’re very proud of your efforts! Basketball and cheerleading are just getting started, so we encourage any students interested in participating to sign up (remember to register in the Planet HS program as well as the student will need a current physical on file).

There are lots of things going on at PJMD from regular school classes/learning to afterschool clubs and athletics. Being involved is a great way to met friends, have fun and improve skills.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office at (907)761-4300.

Thank you and GO MOOSE!

PSAT at PJMS

Big picture

Wednesday, November 30th

All 8th graders will be given the opportunity to take the PSAT at PJMS.

The benefits of taking the PSAT:

1. The test familiarizes you with the test questions and format of the SAT.

2. You'll get a "dress rehearsal" for test day (This is a timed test, and we don't have many opportunities to practice timed tests.)

3. Your results can guide your test prep.

4. Your score can indicate future SAT performance.

5. Doing well on the PSAT can give you a confidence boost for high school and the future.

Student Chromebooks

Students have their Chromebooks assigned, and these Chromebooks are issued to your student for multiple years. It is important for your student to take care of their device. If there are issues with your student's Chromebook, please have them see Mrs. Roberts in the library for assistance.

On the front of each Chromebook is a QR Code that can be scanned for resources relating to the device.

Students may decorate their Chromebook CASE ONLY! The cases should remain on the Chromebook AT ALL TIMES.

More information will be forthcoming regarding lost or damaged Chromebook charges.

School wide Fundraiser September 26 - October 14th

School Fundraiser Catalog should have come home with your student last week. This is our only fundraiser and we are trying to build funds for our Music department, Science Department, and after-school activities. Click on the link below to see the catalog.

When ordering please put in your name and reference the student's name that you are ordering from:

  1. When you send in money, make sure your student's name and teacher info are on the papers, then either you or your student needs to turn in the money to the office, so we can make sure the order gets to the proper place
  2. After all the money is turned in and the Fundraiser has closed (October 14th), the 4c’s 1st 3 classes that have raised the most money will get a Pizza and Ice cream party!
  3. Talk it up to help keep the fundraiser alive and not forgotten about.

The money that we get from these fundraisers helps pay for the end-of-the-year party, snacks for afterschool activities, extra needs in the classrooms, headphones, class supplies, calculators, etc.….

Thank you for all your help with this fundraiser, I know we can beat last year's $4026.00!!! The fundraiser’s last day is October 14th. Products get delivered to the school approximately 2-3 weeks later. If you choose Home delivery, it will be at your home sooner. Free delivery for orders over $75.00.

“All Participating students will be entered to win! 3 Prizes Awarded for Beats Headphones!”

The School Code is PALM22

NEW PJMS Policy: Personal Electronic Devices in the Classroom

Personal electronic devices (PEDs) can be a distraction to the learning environment and a detriment to learning. For this reason, the PJMS policy is “off and away during the school day.” Students are expected to have their electronics turned off and put away from 7:45-2:30 except during lunchtime when use is allowed. Students may also be allowed to use their device for educational purposes in classrooms with specific permission from a teacher.

    • When using devices, no photos or recordings of other people are allowed.
    • PJMS staff may confiscate any device that is used in violation of this policy, or if it becomes disruptive during times when use is allowed.
    • If a device is confiscated, it will be turned in to the front office and the following consequences will occur.
    • First and second offense, an email will be sent to parents.
    • Third and fourth offense, the student will receive an ROC referral.
    • For the first through fourth offense, the student may pick up their phone at the end of the day from the front office.
    • Fifth offense, the device will be turned in to the front office and the student will receive an office referral to see an administrator who will contact parents to discuss the infraction and future consequences.
    • Parents may be required to pick up the device following an office referral.
    • PJMS is not responsible for items lost or stolen at school.

Parents and guardians, we ask that you help us in enforcing this PED policy by not calling or texting your child during school hours. If it is a true emergency, please call the front office at (907)761-4300 and speak with a staff member. We will get a message to your child at an appropriate time to help pass that information along to them instead of them being encouraged to break this policy and potentially cause an interruption and disturbance to the educational setting.

THANK YOU!
