I hope you had a blessed Christmas and that the new year is treating you well. We will have 2 new staff members for the 2nd semester. Mr. Coby Brogan will be teaching K-12 music and Ms. Haylie Push will be teaching middle school math. Please join me in welcoming them to West Nodaway.
As you maybe aware the West Nodaway and Nodaway Holt Boards of Education have both voted to enter a full sports coop for a five year period. On January 6, 2021 a joint coop advisory board meeting will take place and will begin the process of selecting; a name, mascot, and school colors. All survey results will be taken into consideration when making this decision. Thank you to all of those that filled out the sports coop survey. Another sports coop survey will be coming to you soon as we continue the decision making process.
At the December Board Meeting, a vote was taken to place a dollar levy on the April ballot. At the January Board Meeting a vote will be taken to finalize the ballot language. Passage of this levy will be critical to the continued stabilization of the districts financial position as we strive to maintain a quality staff and high level of instruction in grades K-12. More information will be forthcoming in regard to the levy.

I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas Break as you celebrated with family and friends. Over the break the winter weather definitely moved in and looks to be here to stay for a time, so make sure to bundle up those little ones as we return. We are looking so forward to the the students and staff returning to a new semester of learning. The third quarter is typically the longest and contains a lot of new content instruction for students. This quarter will be very demanding and thus critical in your child's success as we strive toward grade level mastery.
We would like to give a huge thank you to December's safety, bus, and patriot patrol. Thank you to Lizzy Atkin, Brayden Rohlmeier, Brody Dow, and Brayden Sipes. You all did a wonderful job! Congratulations to the following students who were nominated by teachers to serve on January's safety, bus, and patriot patrol.
Safety Patrol - Jax Cowden and Braxton McGinness
Bus Patrol - Gracie Larabee and Addie Honan
Patriot Patrol - Brody Dow and Brayden Sipes
Important Note: As we return to school on Tuesday, January 5th, please keep in mind that there is no longer TEAM before or after school. The building opens at 7:35 a.m. for breakfast. Teachers are not in the classrooms until 7:35 a.m. so any student arriving prior to this time will go to the cafeteria. If your child needs breakfast, please bring them at 7:35 a.m. so that they have time to eat and are not late to class. Classes begin at 7:50 a.m. and the tardy bell rings at 7:55 a.m. Students that arrive after 7:55 a.m. will be counted as tardy.
We had a lot of fun in December! Here are a few videos for you to share in the fun:
While we have had a lot of fun during the first semester, we have also seen a lot of educational growth throughout the building this year. We are excited to see how much the students achieve this semester. Please encourage your child to complete their homework nightly and read with them for at least 20 minutes each day.
