NOAA's Estuary Education website has a new look and many new features that will help you, as a teacher, find and teach about coastal and estuary topics. Don’t miss an opportunity to use all the resources in the website! The website offers you lots of ways to engage your students in estuary research through interactive classroom activities and user-friendly real time water quality and weather data exercises. Videos, simulations, teacher activity downloads, and interactive maps are all available to further help students visualize the inner workings of an estuary. Estuaries 101
Estuaries 101 is a series of curricular resources designed using estuaries as the vehicle to help educators bring Earth System Science, Life Science and Chemistry concepts into the classroom. These resources feature hands-on learning, experiments, fieldwork, and data explorations that are bundled with all the necessary tools and resources to aid with classroom implementation.
Graphing with your Students
The System-wide Monitoring Program, or SWMP (pronounced “swamp”), Graphing Tool, provides educators and students with access to weather and water quality data. The new website offers educators SWMP scenarios that explore real events using the SWMP graphing tool or you can create your own.
Estuary Video Gallery
Check out our online library of estuary related videos, which can be a complimentary resource to an Estuaries 101 lesson or used independently as a supplement. Videos are anywhere from 1-3 minutes in length and can be searched by topic, state or grade level.
