Getting Students to Think About Their Thinking
Quick and Easy Strategy to Promote Student Feedback
I am always on the "lookout" for quick and easy ways to get students to think about their thinking, and promote that metacognition piece for our TTESS evaluation. I tried this strategy recently, and it worked really well. It took the students about five minutes which we did at the end of the class period, and it took me about that much time to go through each for a class set. I have to say some of the answers surprised me and gave me a clear picture of who "got" the lesson and who did not get the lesson.
Here Is How It Works:
A - Provide me one ADJECTIVE to describe the lesson.
E - Provide a statement on how you felt (EMOTION) about the lesson.
I - Provide a statement on something you found INTERESTING about the lesson.
O - Provide an "OH, I GET IT" statement from the lesson.
U - Provide one UNANSWERED QUESTION you have about the lesson.
