A Publication of St. Gabriel the Archangel School 5/3/2023

Dear Fabulous Families -
- Thanks to everyone who signed up on the PFA list to "Stock the Lounge" for the staff. Your generosity is appreciated and the staff members are enjoying their treats!
- We wish our 5th grade Dancing Classroom Team the best of luck as they perform at the Regional Competition Monday night.
- Please see the message below from Mrs. Ronshausen.
It is with a heavy heart but excitement for the future that I let you know, after 28 years of teaching at St. Gabriel School, I will not be returning for the 2023-24 school year, but instead will be teaching at Notre Dame High School. St. Gabriel School will always hold an enormous piece of my heart, and I believe this special place will thrive for years to come. Thanks to all of you for the beautiful memories I have made here and the roles so many of you have played in them.
We will miss Mrs. Ronshausen and everything she has done for St. Gabriel the Archangel, but we celebrate with her in this exciting new professional opportunity! May God bless her in all that she does.
- There are always lots of items to go in the school newsletter throughout the year. Please send in submissions by noon on Monday to Dr. Winkeler, dwinkeler@stgab.org, and Mrs. McEnery, tmcenery@stgab.org, before the Wednesday publication. Graphics should be a jpeg or png - not a PDF.
Peace and Joy -

Field Day Information

School Year 2023-2024 Information
Individual grade level supply lists will be posted on the website next week.
Additional information will be added, but we know many of you want to plan vacations!
Chairback Pouches:
If your child will be entering 3rd and 4th grade next year you will need a new chairback pouch.
Because the new chairs are wider in these grades the sides of the chairbacks are splitting open.
All chairbacks will now be made wider to accommodate all sizes of chairs!
They will be slightly big on the small chairs but will work nicely and hopefully save many from ordering new ones in the future
.
Art Bags
All grades, kindergarten through 5th grade, will be using drawstring bags. Feel free to use any drawstring bag you may have. Just make sure you have your child's name clearly labeled on it. Joyce Ortwerth will also have some on hand that can be monogrammed but feel free to use what you already have around your house. If you already have a drawstring bag but would like it monogrammed, Joyce is also able to do that for you also. Just fill out the paperwork accordingly and drop it off to her with your drawstring bag.
Finally, if you are attached to the idea of the old art bags for the younger grade, contact Joyce she will accommodate you.
The order form can be found here: (order form).
For any further questions, please contact Joyce Ortwerth at 314-323-3168.

This is also an opportunity for high school students to volunteer who are in need of completing service hours.

Join the PFA!
Are you interested in getting involved to support our school, faculty and students next year? The PFA strives to foster connections across our school community through activities both in and out of school.
We have two committees that need volunteers for next year:
- The Home & School Committee needs two volunteers. This committee focuses on supporting activities at school, such as—Class Party support, Veterans Day breakfast coordination, Grandparents Day breakfast coordination. (Often this committee spends 1-3 hours on PFA activities per month).
- The Community Outreach Committee needs one volunteer. This committee focuses on connecting our school with the broader community through service activities. Join this committee in finding amazing ways to help our school community give back. (Often this committee spending 1-3 hours on PFA activities per month with slightly more for our school-wide day of service in October)
If you have a couple of hours a month to give, please consider joining PFA to support our amazing school community! Reach out to Erin Knitter (erin.k.keefe@gmail.com) or Emily McGinnis (emilymcginnis@gmail.com) for more information or to volunteer.

A Note from Monsignor
Dear Parishioners:
One of the gifts of the Easter season is baptism. We are blessed to celebrate
close to 100 Baptisms a year here at St Gabriel. The gift of new life is a great
gift to our families and our entire parish community. It was wonderful on
Easter to have so many families and their children with us at Mass. The
sounds of life were joyful for all.
I especially want our Parents of Young Children to know how grateful we are
that you and your family have joined us for Mass at St Gabriel the Archangel.
It is our hope that your little ones will grow up to be vital members of our
parish family. We are grateful that you begin this journey with us.
I and all of St Gabriel realize that it’s not easy to get your whole family to
Mass, and it can be even more difficult to keep all of your little ones still
throughout, but your kids should know that this church is their home and we,
the community, are all brothers and sisters. They should feel welcome and at
home in this place of worship, in the house of God.
We invite you to sing, pray, teach, respond, and explain what is going on at
Mass with your children (In our pews are booklets to help understand the
Mass). Our liturgy is full of life and our little ones learn how to worship
through you and your participation. Children learn by example and your
dedication to coming to Mass and attentiveness to it will be their best lesson.
The presence of children in Mass is a gift to our church and a sign that we are
growing! We rejoice that our children are with us, and that our parish
welcomes new life! Please remember to keep encouraging our young families,
offer your help if they need it, and support them as best you can!
Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the
kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14)
Congratulations also to our 8 th grade class as they received the gift of the
Holy Spirit in Confirmation last week, your profession of Faith was
wonderful to behold, blessings on all as you live out the life of your faith!
Early congratulations to our second graders as they prepare to receive their
First Communion next Sunday!
Easter Blessings!
Msgr John Shamleffer
