School Site Council Members Ballot

Please vote for TWO School Site Council members here: https://forms.gle/t29VmEtrKPy16D8WA

It will take just one minute to vote, and this is very important to ensure we have our School Site Council in place.

Positive Behavior Support

Last week, we launched our Positive Behavior Support program - Panthers C.A.R.E. We focused on the C - Courtesy. Please ask your child what courtesy means and how to show courtesy throughout the school. We reinforced courteous behavior throughout the week by providing students with virtual C.A.R.E. tickets. We will be using the virtual PBIS Rewards to reward our C.A.R.E. tickets. In the coming weeks, the students and then the parents will have access to the virtual system. These tickets will be redeemed in our online C.A.R.E. store. At Back to School Night, you will hear information about this support system.

Running Club Returns

The Panther Running Club will begin on Wednesday, September 7. Students are welcome to join our Running Club on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings to work toward running 100 miles. Students must be on campus by 7:35 AM to participate. The gate will open at 7:30 and close at 7:35 for those students participating in Running Club. After 7:35, our athletes will not be allowed through the gate.

Elevo PE Program

This week’s games of the week are Clue and Empathy Tag, and the focus is social intelligence. To be socially intelligent, you need to be able to accurately identify what you or someone else is feeling, and then you need to know how to respond appropriately. Social intelligence is fundamental to forming and maintaining successful relationships, understanding expectations, being able to navigate group dynamics, and adaptability.

FREE OCTA Bus Passes

Youth (ages 6-18) can ride all OC Bus fixed-route buses for free beginning this month with a new promotional pass offered by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA). There is no criteria to receive a pass, though an application is required.

The Youth Ride Free program is offered by OCTA. The passes will be valid through September 30, 2023. For more information, please visit OCbus.com/YouthRideFree or stop by Panorama with any questions.

After School Programs

We are excited to be able to offer multiple after school activity options. Flyers should have already gone home for Soccer and Legos. These programs are both offered directly after school for scholars in grades 1-6. We have a couple more options in the works for Wednesdays and Thursdays. Once we have our complete list, I will send all the information together in one newsletter.

PTA Volunteers

The PTA would greatly appreciate parents filling out the PTA Volunteer Availability form that was sent home last Friday and can be accessed via the QR code below. You can take a picture of the filled-out form and send it to panoramapta@gmail.com or drop it in the red PTA mailbox in the office. As a little incentive, all those who turn in their form will be entered to win a backpack filled with previous years' spirit wear.

Wednesday Schedule and CARES

On Wednesdays, brunch is served during recess instead of lunch at the end of the day. Due to this, students attending CARES will need to pack a lunch, if the snacks served are not sufficient. Picking up lunch from nutrition services will not be an option on Wednesdays. Please contact CARES with any questions about the snack schedule.

usagain Clothing Drop

On our campus, we have an USAgain drop-off bin. This bin is for used clothing, footwear, cloth accessories, and linen. Our school receives a small amount for each pound collected and USAgain plants a tree for each bin filled.

Lost and Found

Please be sure to label all lunchboxes, sweatshirts, and jackets. Items are already beginning to appear in our lost and found! If your child is missing an item, please remind them to check the lost and found outside of the office.

COVID-19 Procedures and Safety

Individuals who are sick or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should contact their healthcare provider and stay home. If your child or a member of your household has tested positive or is awaiting COVID-19 test results, please follow public health guidance.

If your child tests positive for COVID-19 or experiences COVID-19 symptoms, please contact the school and/or email me at erosselli@orangeusd.org. We will gather information from you and provide you with your options.

If a student tests positive, they are required to isolate. The isolation guidance requires 10 days without testing from when symptoms began or a positive test (whichever comes first). The student can return to school on day 11; however, if a student tests negative on day 5 using an FDA-approved antigen test and all symptoms have improved that student is able to return to school on day 6. If a home test was used, students will need to bring the attestation form to the office upon their return. The student must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.

Please refer to the OUSD Safety and Health Driven Plan and the County of Orange Health Officer’s Orders directly for more information.

The Orange Unified School District will be offering COVID-19 testing Monday through Thursday at the comprehensive high schools and the district office from 2:30 - 5:00.

See the flyer below to register for testing. You MUST register prior to arriving to test. Scan the QR code in the flyer or click here: https://apps.livingfitnation.com/covid/registration?q=ZC128mzcc9lFeeoTzoXp3w%3D%3D

Smarter Balanced Score Reports

If your child was in third through sixth grade last year, they completed the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments. You can access your child's score report in the Aeries Parent Portal under "Test Scores" and then "State Electronic Score Reports." These results will also be discussed with you at parent conferences in October. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office.

Grade Level & Teacher Wish Lists

Click on a grade level below to see the wish lists. If it is a teacher list only, you will need to wait until the evening of Tuesday, August 17.

Section 5 of Article IX of the State of California Constitution guarantees students a "free public education." The State Supreme Court concluded in the 1984 case of Hartzell v. Connell, "that all educational activities carried on by public school districts, extra-curricular as well as curricula, must be without cost to the students who participate in such activities." This same ruling found that "mandatory fees for participating in such extra-curricular activities as drama, music, and athletic competition were illegal under the State Constitution." Furthermore, they also rejected the argument that "fees could be charged so long as the district waived fees for students who were financially unable to pay." Recent proposed legislation includes reimbursement with interest for any illegally-collected fees as well as a district sanction.

Nutrition Services

Breakfast and lunch will continue to be provided to all students at no cost this school year. Breakfast is served before school starts, beginning at 8:00. Please be sure to have your child here at 8:00, if you would like them to eat breakfast before school starts. This ensures they have enough time to finish.

You can find the breakfast menu here:
