WELCOME TO OWYHEE HIGH SCHOOL!

We can't wait to meet you!

A Message from Principal Cliff Rice

I am beyond humbled to have the opportunity to be the principal of this amazing school and students at Owyhee High School. I have been in West Ada for 20 years. I started as a teacher at Meridian Academy and then moved over to Mountain View High School when it opened in 2003. At Mountain View High School, I taught for 2 years, became the activities director in 2005, was hired as a vice principal in 2011 and then became principal of MVHS in 2017. I loved my time as a Maverick but couldn't pass up an opportunity to build a school from the ground up. We have assembled an all-star team of admin, teachers and staff that will bring energy and excitement to our classrooms! I look forward to seeing the students flooding into our school on the first day, August 26. I hope you all can join us at some of our upcoming events, highlighted in this week's newsletter.

There will be an open house on August 17th from 4-8 p.m. and a ribbon cutting on August 19th at 9 a.m. We hope to see you at these events. The ribbon cutting will include a pep rally to get us all geared up for what is sure to be a great first year at OHS.

Traffic Update

Traffic changes and road construction will be going on during the first few months of school. There will be a signal light at Owyhee Storm and Ustick Road that will be complete in late August or early September. The intersection of McMillian and Owyhee Storm is being widened and will be completed prior to school starting. The intersection of Star and McMillan will widen to three lanes in all directions and will have a signal. The intersection will be constructed in phases and will be complete by the end of November.

We’re following ACHD’s traffic requirements. There are multiple ways to enter OHS, so we’re confident that this area will be able to accommodate the traffic. I am attaching a map of the area so you can clearly see where the work is taking place. This map also shows where student, teacher, and visitor parking areas are. Please click the Road Construction Map link below.

Please know if requests are not submitted prior to Wednesday, August 11th, counselors will choose courses for students. Schedules will be visible in Class Choice by Monday, August 16th. Students will use their West Ada usernames and passwords to log in to Power School, then access Class Choice from there to see their schedules. Counselors will be emailing parents and students if there are scheduling issues or questions. Please make sure to check your email frequently.

Any requests for schedule changes must be submitted through an online form that will be available on the Owyhee High School Counseling webpage. Interested in Joining Band?

Hello Owyhee Students! My name is Mrs. Seubert and I’m the band director at Owyhee High School. We are starting to get our marching band season underway. If you want to be a part of marching band (even if you haven’t signed up for band yet!), we have some upcoming camp dates that I wanted everyone to be aware of.
Full band camp for all marching students will be August 9th-13th at Owyhee High School from 8 am to 4 pm. If you’re not sure if you want to do band just yet, stop by camp the first day and see if it’s a good fit! We’d love to have you. If you have any interest in dance or being in Marching Band, but you don’t play an instrument, Color Guard is a great option! There is no experience necessary, and we have a great coach, Taylor Witmer. Our awesome percussion instructor is Rebekah Jillson.
If you have any questions at all, my email is seubert.katherine@westada.org. I hope to see a lot of you in the next few weeks!

From the Nurse’s Office

Hello wonderful students, I am excited to serve as your school nurse at Owyhee High School! Just a reminder, all incoming senior students are required to obtain a second Meningococcal (MCV4/Menactra) vaccine or have a parent/guardian complete a vaccine exemption form prior to the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. Thank you for your assistance! - Tami Desaulniers, RN
