Our staff made videos that were posted on Google Classrooms, our website, and the LAWES Facebook page for the Title I "Twelve Days of Christmas Reading" literacy event. We are still in need of feedback on that project. If you would please fill out the survey (click this link) so that we can have a record of how many parents viewed at least one video and have feedback for future events.
Instead of clubs in December, we had class ice cream sundae parties! They were delicious!
We had a visit from the big man- Santa- thanks to our PTA! Every student received candy canes and a free book.
We also enjoyed a sing-a-long with Mr. Young.

Updates on campus clean-up projects:
Paint:
- Maintenance is going to provide paint to repaint our bath house & the well / water tank shed that's on the other side of the big ball field. They are going to bring color swatches to the school before our next meeting so we can review and select colors together. They only provide white & school colors.
- Someone volunteered to take care of painting the handrails on both sets of steps going down to the basketball courts.
- An artist in King may be able to paint a mural on one of the outdoor buildings. Maintenance said that would need to be a building that wasn't built by the school (for ex. the bath house wouldn't work), so the concession stand would be the best option. Checking on price.
Bleachers:
- Maintenance is going to take care of getting 3 pads poured for us to fit the size of the bleachers. Two on the larger field and one on the smaller field. They have come out to locate ground lines around the bleacher areas to prep for the concrete to be poured.
- As soon as the final donation checks arrive, we will purchase the bleachers.
- The goal is to have the bleachers done by early April in time for ball games.
Concession Stand:
- The back of the building is completely rotted out, so we may need to replace the building entirely.
- Because we aren't preparing food in the building, we won't have to bring anything up to code. So the need for 3 sinks/ drains/ etc. are no longer required. We would have to pull a permit, and get the electric box replaced by the power company.
- If we end up not getting a new building we will need all hands on deck to replace/repair our current one.
- We are also looking at replacing the gutters. This would be for both the concession stand and the bath house.
Ball Fields:
- Hannah & Dustin have secured all the rock dust we need for the fields through a Vulcan Materials donation. We need to plan a day for field clean up & spreading the rock.
- The tin roofs on top of the dugouts are rusted, but there's a sealer we can paint over them to coat them and make them look new. It's cheaper than replacing them entirely.
School Building Clean Up:
- Platinum Power Wash has offered their services to pressure wash the building. We are following up to see what all that includes and if there would be any cost to us.
January 27 will be the next movie event after school. The movies will be Frozen 2 (K-2), and Ice Age Collision Course (3-5). Kona Ice will be on campus! The cost will be $10 and that will be for 2 slices of pizza, chips, canned drink, and a Kona Ice snow cone (large). A flyer and sign-up sheet will come home soon.
Discussion is underway about a Valentine's Dance for February!
Please join us for the PTA Meeting this Thursday, January 12 at 5:30 in the Library!
