The FCS Atoms Update
Sept. 8-13
This week we will have club shopping on Monday in which scholars will have the opportunity to choose between several different clubs! Here are just a few of the clubs and descriptions offered by our staff and amazing volunteers.
Citizen Science Club: Interested in creating a pollinator-friendly school? Ready to participate in real-life wildlife studies right here at FCS? We will be working on creating butterfly/bee-friendly gardens, bat houses, bee boxes, and more as we will learn about our native pollinators. Along with fun nature studies that contribute to real, ongoing investigations with scientists, this club is a must for anyone ready to explore the natural world right here at school!
Hors d'oeuvre: also known as bocas, zakuskis, appetizers, and finger-foods, these "little mouthfuls" are a fun way to make and share delicious foods and are popular around the world. In hors- d'oeuvre club we will make a variety of bite-sized snacks that taste great and look amazing. Picky eaters take note: there will be vegetables, herbs, and possibly flavors that will surprise you. If you have a food allergy or restriction, I need to know. Bonus: memorize how to spell 'hors d'oeuvre' and win a prize.
Art Club: We will explore art in different forms and media, and create art based on student interest. You don't have to be an "artist." Anyone can create and have fun!
Blue Ridge Atoms 4-H
In addition to the Trout in the Classroom Project, FCS 4-H'ers will select a project area they are interested in to complete hands-on projects. These projects will be presented at the local county level for competition, which may lead to regional, state, and national levels. The individual project will be self-paced with guidance provided along the way. Your project, your way, your choice.
Game Club: Want to play a variety of individual, partner, and team games? Can you think critically and work creatively to solve a problem? Do you thrive on competition? If so, the Game Club may be right for you. We will meet and play in the classroom, throughout the school, and outside for the first semester. Hope to see you soon!
