St. Jerome School Weekly Newsletter
January 6th, 2021
"We are not sent into this world for nothing; we are not born at random...God sees every one of us; He creates every soul for a purpose."
St. John Neumann
From Mr. Merrick
Dear St. Jerome Families,
Welcome back! We hope that you all had a restful break. As we continue with our first week of school, please keep in mind the health protocol from the Catholic Schools Onward plan (they are published at the bottom of every newsletter). We depend on all of our St. Jerome School community following these guidelines so that we can continue to offer in-person instruction. We also depend on you keeping us informed and keeping your child home for virtual learning if he or she has tested positive or been exposed to COVID-19. We greatly appreciate the cooperation the we received during the first half of the school year, but I wanted to remind everyone as we continue through the winter.
Let's also continue to pray that we all stay healthy and safe; in particular this month we call upon the intercession of St. John Neumann, 4th bishop of Philadelphia, whose feast day we celebrated yesterday. His shrine at St. Peter the Apostle Church on 5th Street is worth a visit to pray and learn more about his saintly life, including how he started our system of Catholic schools here in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Congratulations to our Students of the Month for December: Giovanna Giannetti, Stella Clark, Evan Spiker, Lucas Brescia, Salvatore Johnson, Abigail Pesce, Dominic Macrina, Akeem Twegby, Kierah Wisniewski, Adrian Manzur, and Dan Alper. Their names were announced and certificates presented on the Wednesday before Christmas vacation. Our virtue for January is gratitude.
Since Mrs. Schmidt's 6th graders were unable to assist with our December School Liturgy (due to the snow day), they will be preparing our January Liturgy on the 22nd. Miss Weiss's 5th grade class will participate in our February 3rd Mass.
Please remember that there is no hot lunch this week (including pizza). We did this to provide time after break to submit lunch orders. Hot lunch resumes next week.
This Friday will be a St. Jerome Spirit Day; for a donation, students may wear their gym uniform and any St. Jerome shirt or sweatshirt. Proceeds will benefit the work of our St. Jerome School Student Council.
Have a great rest of the week; St. Jerome and St. John Neumann, pray for us!
Good News from the Lerlo Family:
While Mrs. Lerlo is on maternity leave, Ms. Sara McGilloway, a Catholic school graduate, is teaching our third graders. Ms. McGilloway spent the fall semester student teaching in 2nd grade at Our Lady of Calvary as she earns her master's degree in education. We appreciate having her experience with virtual learning and the Catholic Schools Onward plan.
