Science
Hello Thunderhawks!
Next week in Science, students are continuing our unit on Heat and Matter. We will be looking at how adding or removing thermal energy changes the behavior of the molecules and we will discuss why this happens. Students will be completing an assignment using the Explore Learning Gizmos resource; this resource has a lot to explore and we will be using it consistently throughout the school year.
We will have our Unit 1 Test covering Heat and Matter on Thursday, September 8th. Students have notes in their Google Drive they can review and they will receive a study guide.

English
Hello Thunderhawks!
This week we will read our first short story of the year, Eleven. We will use this text to reflect on our own personal journey as we write about “things I carry with me to 6th grade, and things I leave behind”. The written portion of this assignment will be completed in class on Thursday and Friday of this week. The presentation component of this assignment will begin on Wednesday, September 7th.

This week in Literacy, students will be learning about the different genres in literature. These include realistic fiction, historical fiction, science fiction, fantasy, dramas, poetry, and folklore. We will be practicing determining the genre of a book by analyzing key details the author gives us in the book blurb. Reminder - Students should be bringing some type of reading material each day as part of their supplies. This could be from home, from the Heartland or public library, or on Sora on their computer..
