Read 2 Learn Rally 2024: We're All Happy Campers!
Second graders across all WFISD elementary schools gathered Friday morning to celebrate the annual Read 2 Learn Rally. Read 2 Learn is an initiative led by the WFISD Partners In Education program to insure that all children are reading at grade level by the end of third grade. The goal is for students to be reading to learn rather than learning to read. Students this year participated in several fun activities to celebrate reading: story time with special guests, s'more snacks and campfire stories, flashlight reading, coloring their own bookmark, and more!

Fain Fourth Graders "Shower" Kindness on Others
Rain, sleet or snow won't prevent Fain students from being kind. On Friday morning, Fain Elementary fourth grade students greeted everyone with a high five, hand shake and some words of encouragement as they entered school. In addition to greeting students, they also provided fruit trays for the faculty. Every month, the Kindness Squad led by Fain teacher Laura Wetzel finds ways to show compassion and generosity through kind acts of service. "My students love to be a part of something greater than themselves for our small community at Fain," said Ms. Wetzel. "They love the idea of giving back and simply being kind to others."
Franklin Students Brew Up a "Latte" Learning!
On Friday, January 19, Franklin 3rd graders got to experience being baristas during Starbucks Day. The students spent the day participating in a variety of coffee-themed activities. In reading, they used an informational passage to compare and contrast coffee and tea and then enjoyed a 'book tasting café.' In math, they used a menu to create specialty coffee drinks and then calculated the cost of each drink. For science, students used coffee filters and markers to test a hypothesis about colors.
