Message From The Principal

Well here we are nearing the end of Term 3... where on earth did that time go! We have had an incredibly busy term with so many wonderful experiences and opportunities for all the students here at St Luke's. From our Year 6 Camp, to Science Week, Book Week, Performing Arts Festival, Tournament of Minds, Telethon Power of Speech, Sport Carnivals, Year 5 Boys and Girls evenings, Holy Communion, Father's Day Breakfast, Mini Vinnies Drive, Religious Literacy Assessments... and everything in between. Phew what a term!!!

We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated and committed staff who work tirelessly to offer all these opportunities to our students. Thank you to each and every one of our super star staff here at St Luke's, you're all one in a million!

It was wonderful to see Fr Stan having a ball visiting our Kindy's this week. They were excited to show him all the things they were learning and creating. It is always lovely to see Fr Stan around the school. Be sure to say hello and introduce yourself if you see him around.

Father's and Grandfather's Appreciation Breakfast

Recently we celebrated Father's Day with a community breakfast coordinated by our P&F. Thank you to the many fantastic volunteers who worked hard on the morning and behind the scenes to make the breakfast a success. Thank you also to the Year 4 families for coordinating the Father's Day stall and raffle. Events such as this simply cannot happen without your support and hard work. The buzz around the school was wonderful, with many dads expressing their appreciation for the all the effort on the day.

Athletics Carnival

Seeing all of the children actively participating in the different parts of the Athletics Carnival last week was wonderful. A huge thank you to Miss R for the amazing job she did coordinating the day. There is a tremendous amount of work that goes into making carnivals run smoothly, thank you to all of our staff members and volunteers who contributed to making the day memorable for the students.

Congratulations to our medallion winners and McSweeney for taking out the trophy for 2023!

The final scores were:

McSweeney 3204

Laurence 3083

MacKillop 2673

O’Connor 2485

First Eucharist

Congratulations to the Year 4 students who received their First Eucharist over the weekend. Both liturgies were a beautiful celebration and it was wonderful to see so many people present to support the children. Thank you to Mr Di Blasi, Mrs Knox, Mrs Schrader and Angela Coon (Sacramental Coordinator) for preparing the students and Fr. Stan for leading the celebrations.

As the holidays draw near, we hope our families get the opportunity to spend some quality time together and have a well-deserved rest and chance to recharge ready for another fun-filled Term 4.

Message from the Assistant Principals

Speak Up Awards

Congratulations to all Year 4-6 students who participated in the recent St Luke's Speak Up Awards. The finals were held on Monday and the three speakers from each year level spoke with pride and passion for their topics. A special thank you to our guest judges from CEWA who made the difficult decisions regarding final places.

Performing Arts Festival

Congratulations to Miss Robertson and all of the students who participated in the recent Performing Arts Festival. Their hard work and dedication to rehearsals has led to a number of the performances being acknowledged with certificates including:

Choir- Certificate of Merit

Year 3 Dance- Outstanding

Year 5 Dance- Outstanding

A special thank you also to the parents who came along to support the children at the performances and those who volunteered their time to make costumes.

Tournament of Minds

Recently, four teams of students from the SHINE program competed in the Tournament of Minds competition at Edith Cowan. Teams from schools across the state were given a six week challenge to complete as well as an unseen spontaneous problem on the day. The students did a fantastic job representing St Luke's, with the Language and Literature team being recognised with a Certificate of Merit.

Dress Like a Pirate Day

We will be celebrating the end of term with a Dress Like a Pirate Day on Friday 22nd September. Students are invited to add a little something 'piratey' to their outfit on the day for a gold coin donation which will be donated to LifeLink.
Captain Plint and his merry crew will be walking the plank as part of a mini assembly at 8:45am which parents are welcome to attend.

Children's Liturgy

Our St Luke's Parish have been discussing the idea to recommence Children's Liturgy at the Sunday 9.30am Mass. Fr Stan and the Children's Liturgy coordinators are wanting to gauge if this is something that our families would support by attending. Please indicate here if you would attend Children's Liturgy on Sunday mornings with your children: Yes or No

Uniforms

Seeing the new uniforms come to life at St Luke's has been wonderful. The feedback from students has been lovely to hear too! Walking around classrooms, we have seen some students mix and match the old and the new, the formal with a sport jacket, long sleeved shirts under the formal shirt and even some summer dresses. Please do not do this. As we are in Term 3, it is winter uniform, which is either the old style pinafore or new uniform, both require the formal jumper. Sport jackets are not to be worn with the formal uniform. Summer dresses are only to be worn in Term 1 and 4.

We are wanting to improve the overall appearance and standards for St Luke's. We have a beautiful new, high quality uniform, so let's wear it with pride and help our school to look great! Thank you for your efforts and assistance with this matter.

Lost Property

Please remember to label everything with your child's first and last name including uniform items, lunch boxes, water bottles... even shoes! You would be surprised what turns up in the office. If it has a name we return it immediately.

Happy Holidays!

We hope everyone has a relaxing holiday break and returns recharged for the end of the year. Term 4 commences for students on Monday 9th October.

We have a very busy Term 4 planned, please ensure you are marking your diaries with any important events and keeping up to date with what is happening at school via our live calendar, which can be found here.

Telethon Speech and Hearing

Power of Speech

On Saturday the 9th of September, the students from Telethon Speech and Hearing (TSH) participated in the annual Power of Speech, public speaking event.

Congratulations to the nine students from St Luke’s Catholic Primary who delivered their speeches, along with students from other TSH supported schools around Perth. It was a fantastic afternoon! A special congratulations to Eleanor (Year 4) for being acknowledged as the most improved speaker.

Well done to everyone involved! You should all be extremely proud of your efforts.

Loud Sock Day Friday 13th October

Please bring a gold coin donation and wear your brightest socks with your usual Friday uniform. Stay tuned for some fun facts about hearing over the PA in Week 1, as we count down to Loud Socks Day.

Thank you for your ongoing support. We look forward to seeing everyone get LOUD!

Science Week

What a celebration of innovation we had here at St Luke’s during our Science Week activities and special lunch.

When our students were challenged to innovate and think of something else other than their lunch box to bring their lunch to school, who would have thought there would be such a diverse range of containers coming through! Boxes were upcycled, tool boxes emptied, Lego was used as Bento boxes and there were many unique containers that came to school. Some favourites from the day were the rim of a sombrero being used, shoes as lunch boxes, a microwave created, banana leaves around food, Santa sacks being used earlier in the year, lunches wrapped in newspaper, mini wheelbarrows with a new purpose, an old CD storage case that perfectly fit a bagel, pillow cases decorated, lots of creative efforts and of course there were lots of smiles.

We have had a wonderful time in our Science classes being innovative with a straw paper plane after learning about the history of flight and many students chose to have a go with the daily lunch time competitions. Our Kindergarten students had the chance to make straw rockets and our Pre Kindy students took home a special rock. Even our staff were enjoying daily quizzes, Science fun jokes and the area around the Science Room was decorated with their favourite innovations – which resulted in a lot of discussions about their choices.

Science Week was a great opportunity to celebrate all of the students in our school who are curious, inquisitive, creative, persistent, open-minded, analytical and all round awesome. Throughout the week we looked at the innovations that have shaped our lives, the innovators who thought of them and we have even dared to dream about the innovations that are yet to come.

Student Spotlight

Congratulations to Dion in 3W who recently qualified for the International Event ‘World Ninja League’ 2023 Championships. From across the globe the top 0.3% of competitors qualified to compete, being held in multiple countries across the world.

Dion completed both the Placement and Challenge courses in the recent WNL Competition. He displayed strength, focus and incredible ninja skills that led Dion to take top spot in the World Ninja League Kids division. This qualifies him to compete in Brooklyn New York in November.

We wish Dion all the very best in his international competition!

The 'Saints' basketball team is made up of 8 out of 9 St Luke’s players from Year 6. The team joined only 2 years ago with none of the boys having ever played basketball. After enduring many losses at the beginning of their journey, they have worked hard and worked their way to Division 1. They are about to play in the Grand Final of the Under 12s 1st Division Saturday group.

If you would like to support the boys, their game is at 9am at Warwick Stadium, Court 1, this Saturday 16th September.

If you have any good news stories about our students that you would like to share with the community, please send any photos and a short blurb to natalie.vennitti@cewa.edu.au

YOUTH GROUP REPORT

Last youth group was a remarkable evening. To begin we played some old Woodvale classic games known as “categories” and “cross the river”. We had so much fun during these games, we didn’t even have time to run the third! After this, a member of the Youth Mission Team was asked to share a bit of their testimony which reflected our term theme, “sainthood and the sacraments”.

NON-YOUTH GROUP ACTIVITES

There was a sisterhood event over the weekend run by one of our student leaders. This was a shared lunch and Bible study, breaking down important questions, especially in the life of a young woman.

NEXT YOUTH GROUP

Next youth group we will be running a games night. It will be a night full of fun to commemorate the coming of the end of term and holidays around the corner!

God Bless,
Trinity & Stefan
