Sehome High School Mariner Memo
Week of February 15 - 19, 2021
No School Monday, February 15th, in honor of Presidents Day
Note from the Principal
Dear Sehome Community,
I hope that you enjoyed the snow and found some time to relax and recharge. Last week, we had all hands on deck helping with getting registration information out to students. Our counseling website also has lots of great resources.
Monday- we reviewed the course catalog and downloaded the forms needed
Tuesday- students were able to watch some videos of classes they were interested in
Wednesday- grade level meeting with counselors and teachers to answer grade-level specific questions
Thursday and Friday- Choice Course Fair- students could Zoom in and listen to teachers present on specific classes and ask any questions.
On Tuesday, 2/16, students will register for their classes on Skyward. The registration window for Skyward closes at the end of the day Tuesday. Students will need to enter their requests on their Skyward account. It is not an option on the parent access. We could really use your help with reminding your child to complete this process!
Counselors will then meet individually with students to review their requests and ensure that students have selected classes that align with needed graduation requirements. If you or your child have any questions, you can reach out to your counselor at any time. Know that it can take some time to respond as they are meeting with students and will get to your email as soon as possible.
First semester grades are now posted in Skyward. Paper report cards are being mailed out this week. If you have any questions, please reach out to the teacher. Please also review the email I sent out on Friday that explains the NC (no credit) and I (Incomplete) grade marks you may see on the report card.
I would like to give a huge shout out to our PTSA who continually finds ways to support our staff and students even in these crazy times. The donation of your time to assist with teacher projects, delivery of delicious treats, and constant encouragement are greatly appreciated. We couldn't do what we do without your support. If you are not yet a member of the PTSA, it is not too late! We would love to have new members join the fun! There is additional information below if you are interested.
We continue to prepare for hybrid learning at the high school level. We continue to add additional students to our Internet Cafe. If you are interested in hearing more about the Internet Cafe, please reach out to Mike Couto or Bethany Barrett. More and more students are joining the afternoon in-person office hour opportunities we have available. More teachers are experimenting with having small groups of students in their classrooms during synchronous and asynchronous learning times. We are building capacity in our staff and students around our safety protocols. Our building is ready for whenever we get the green light to bring additional students in.
Know that I appreciate each one of you! What an incredible community we have. Please reach out with any questions, comments, or celebrations. We like to hear it all!

Sehome Drama Presents...
We want to share this film with our Bellingham community! One of the main goals of the Sehome Drama teens was to make sure that no young person felt alone, and they wanted the other young people of Bellingham to know that other people felt the same way. We are going to stream the film online and you will be able to watch the movie on any internet device. We are partnering with BookTix, which makes the process easy for you!
Tickets are now available at sehomedrama.com.
Your final opportunity to view this film is Wednesday February 17 at 3 pm as part of a special ‘student showing’ for students in the district. Please join us for this fabulous opportunity!
It’s that time of year to think about snow and our procedures and impact of weather-related school cancellations.
Depending on conditions (which could include snow, flooding, power outages, etc.), school could:
- close for the day (in the case of widespread power outages),
- close in-person instruction with all classes being held remote (K-2 would follow their remote schedule, watch for Zoom link from teacher),
- open two hours late with regular bus routes or snow bus routes,
- open on time with snow bus routes,
- no busing for internet café at middle and high school
How can I get weather/emergency information?
Changes to the school schedule are usually announced by 6 a.m., and we use a variety of methods to keep families informed:
