Mrs. Ewald’s and Mrs. Fowler’s Reading and Language Arts
This week, students will begin the “Starry Home” unit. The essential question for this unit, “should we make a home in space?” Students will read and analyze “Dark they Were, and Golden Eyed.” They will also learn about similes, metaphors, and personification.
Mrs. Boyer's Reading Advancement Program
This week, students read about the history of Manga and Anime. We worked on sequencing and putting events in chronological order. Next week, we will be studying different parts of the country. We are starting with North America and will be reading about the Grand Canyon. One reading skill we will focus on will be making inferences after reading a piece of text. The other one will be identifying antonym pairs. We will also be looking at writing an extended response to an article. This is our last week of April to increase our Lexile Scores in Achieve 3000 before they update May 1st!
MATH - Mr. Kolb
Accelerated 7 students just completed a CFA (quiz) on the first half of our Geometry topic. Next week, we will dive into Area of Circles, Cross Sections, and Surface Area. Our CSA will be the following week.
SOCIAL STUDIES - Mrs. Hess
This week we learned about important events that pulled the nation apart in the 1850s. Next week, we will finish this chapter by learning about the Election of 1860. Students will be taking a quiz (CFA) in the middle of the week, and we will end the week by starting Chapter 22. This chapter follows the important battles in the Civil War.
SCIENCE - Mrs. Arndt
Next week we will be checking the status of our developing chicks by candling the eggs every couple days. This process involves shining a bright light through the egg looking for evidence of blood vessels starting to form. We will also be continuing in our Matter and Energy unit by investigating how carbon dioxide gets into an ecosystem.
