Chapman Students Show PRIDE 10/17-21
Weekly PRIDE Shoutout Totals
Class Spotlight: Mrs. Marlowe, 3rd Grade!
Students prepared for their upcoming 3rd grade OST by reviewing central message and competing in some fear factor challenges. First, students teamed up and collaborated in groups on a Google Form to find the central message or theme of a short passage and also practiced using text evidence to support the answer. Points were given for correct responses. Students then could reach into the spooky boxes for the eyeball, brains, monster teeth, or worm challenges. They had to dig around and pull out two shapes which became the factors. They had to solve the X fact and if they got that correct their team was awarded the amount of the product. Students had to read, multiply, and add throughout the lesson. Students were engaged, motivated, and collaborating during this spooky theme review!

Fun Run Thank You Chapman Families!
THANK YOU to our Chapman School COmmunity for making our first Fun Run a HUGE Success! Although it was cold, our students had a blast and we loved having so many spectators cheering everyone on!
We will receive our total funds raised early this week and I will share this update along with our class pizza party winner for being our top fundraising class.
Since we far exceeded our goal, some of the additional funds will be used for this year's PTA events without additional fundraising!
Thank you for your generosity and for making this fundraiser such a fun experience for our students!
THANK YOU Fun Run T-Shirt Sponsors!
Thank you again to the businesses who sponsored the Fun Run T shirts. The kids looked great and the shirts added to the excitement. We appreciate your support!

Bullying Prevention Month & Spirit Week
Mr. Biehl has spent the month of October teaching students about bullying and bullying prevention during his monthly guidance lessons. This week Chapman Elementary will be focusing on and further educating our students on bullying awareness and prevention. During this week, we would like our staff and students to show their P.R.I.D.E. daily in the following way:
Monday October 24th It’s Crazy to be a Bully - crazy socks, hair, and clothes (backwards, mismatch, etc.)
Tuesday October 25th Peace Out to being a Bully - wear tie die or peace sign clothes (this day is also picture retake and group picture day)
Wednesday October 26th Unity Day - wear orange to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying.
Thursday October 27th Be a Hero Not a Bully Day - wear your favorite superhero shirt
Friday October 28th Put a Rest to Bullying - wear pajamas or comfy clothes
Attention! Power School Updates!
Please take a moment to check your Power School Account and make any updates necessary. Please ensure you have your emergency contacts listed. Check to make sure we have your most updated contact list. We have also noticed that many families have indicated they would not like their child's photo to be released. This means that we cannot use your child's picture in our weekly communication. If you feel you mistakenly indicated this on your Power School account, please log on and fix this.
If you have a school fee you need to pay, you may do this on Powerschool or send a check in to the main office, payable to Strongsville City Schools. As a reminder, if your account has an outstanding balance, your child will be unable to participate in school field trips or clubs. Thank you!
Free & Reduced Lunch Applications
A new application for free and reduced lunches needs to be completed for each school year. To determine eligibility for free / reduced lunch, as well as various additional state and federal program benefits inclusive of possible district student fees being waived, an application must be completed online. The 2022-23 Free / Reduced Meal Application is currently available to complete.
Pick Up/Drop Off Parking Reminder
Please refrain from parking along the side parking lot towards the back of the building. We have to have clearance for emergency vehicles to enter and we're having cars use this space to park. Please see the map with the star. This is the area being referenced. Please park in the front lot, along the circle or the additional spaces on the outside of the circle. Thank you for your cooperation.
Picture Retake & Group Picture Day 10/25
October 25 is picture retake day: If getting individual retakes, please send in previous package with your student. We will also be photographing the following student groups: Band, Orchestra, Student Council, Newspaper Club, Announcements Crew, Kids on the Run, and Makerspace Club.
22/23 School Fee Notice
Student fee statements came home. They can be paid by check or exact cash, or with a card online. Please also update your annual emergency forms in powerschool if you haven't yet.
A Note From Nurse Penny: Cough Drops & Clothes Needed in the Clinic
If sending cough drops in with your student, they must have a note from parent/guardian to take cough drops. Note needs to be given to Nurse Penny. Students will not be permitted to have/take cough drops without a note.
We are in need of clothing donations in the clinic: youth small sizes (S/M/L) underwear, socks, long pants, t shirts/long sleeve shirts. If you're going through clothes that no longer fit, the clinic appreciates any donation! These clothes are used for students who need to change into new clothing while at school. Thank you!

Halloween Parade, Costume Guidance & Classroom Party Information (10/31)
Halloween Classroom Parties
Our PTA sponsored Halloween Classroom parties will take place on Monday, October 31 from 2:15-3:15 p.m. in the classrooms. Please remember that volunteers that have signed up in advance, will be admitted (This is organized through our PTA and head room parents). All volunteers must sign in with the office, present a photo ID and receive a visitor's badge prior to entering classrooms.
Halloween Parade
Weather permitting, we will have a short parade on the sidewalks in the front of the school. We will start promptly at 2:00 and end at 2:05. Families are welcome to line to sidewalks to watch the parade. If we have inclement weather a cancellation notice will be communicated.
Halloween Costumes
Students are encouraged to dress up on this day. A great idea for a costume is to dress up as character from a favorite book. Please remember that even costumes MUST be appropriate (NO spaghetti straps, NO bare midriffs, NO inappropriate icons or graphics). Students should wear their costumes, non-violent and simple in nature, to school. Look-a-like weapons (including, but not limited to, swords, guns, and knives) are NOT permitted. This should be a positive experience by encouraging fun and originality. Masks will not be permitted to be worn throughout the school day, but may be worn during the party.
