Good Things Newsletter

April 2016

Welcome

We are in the homestretch for this school year. It's hard to believe in less than two months we will be graduating yet another class. We also know this time of year can be the toughest in terms of finding the energy for the last push.

Your Tech and Media team are here to help. We would love the opportunity to assist you with creating lessons, co-teaching, or learning a new tool in this last phase of the year.

Enjoy the warmer weather and have a Great Week !

Cool Tool: Discovery Education Streaming

Discovery Education has been revamped and has some great materials, units, and lessons. If you are a Science, Math, or Social Studies teacher--you also have access to the Discover Techbooks for those subjects.

To Access Discover Education, you will use the link to MGSD's Digital Resources page, and then scroll down until you see Discover Education. You will use the same username and password you use to log into your laptop!

Please contact April, Tracey, or Damien to discuss how you could best incorporate Discovery Education into a lesson or lessons this quarter.

News From The Media Center

Happy School Library Month from Erin & Kristi!

Every April, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) celebrates school librarians and their media programs. Thank you for the generous support that you give to us on a daily basis. We enjoy working with you and helping MHS students. Please don’t hesitate to ask us for assistance and/or resources for your classes.

Tech Check-Up

  • Laptop Checks are going on this week and next

  • Help Desk will be closed on the 22nd and 26th so they students can assist other schools with their laptop checks

  • Please be careful about the sites you visit. I’ve had a lot of issues with students and teachers being spammed with pop-up ads. If this happens to you come to the Help Desk and I’ll fix it.

  • Recent news has reported a surge in ransomware on computers. Please don’t pay anyone to “unlock your computer”

  • I can’t stress this enough -- if something is wonky with your computer. Try a restart. That will help.

  • Sign-up for EdCamp during Summer Institute! It’s going to be awesome this year

  • Laptop Collection will look a little different this year. Stay tuned for updates!!!
