The main power of the House is to pass federal laws. Although, its bills must also be passed by the Senate and the President before becoming a law . The House also has some other powers: the power to impeach officials and to elect the U.S. President in case there is no majority.
The Senate also has many jobs. They can say yes or no to any treaties the president makes, approve or disapprove any people the president recommends for jobs, such as cabinet officers, Supreme Court justices, and ambassadors. They can also can hold a trial for a government official who did something wrong.
