New Language Arts Themed Books
The Whisper by Pamela Zagarenski
Lesson Idea: This is a great book to teach how to read wordless picture books. It could also be a wonderful tool for writing prompts since various stories are started, but never finished.
How to Read a Story by Kate Messner
Lesson Idea: Not only could this book be a great tool for introducing "how to" books, but it could also be a helpful way for students to reflect on their own reading process. Challenge them to think about the steps they take when reading especially if they encounter any difficulties such as a word they don't know.
Duncan the Story Dragon by Amanda Driscoll
Inside This Book: (Are Three Books) by Barney Saltzberg
Lesson Idea: Inspire students to create their own stories- within- a- story. The smaller the book the more fun! Read with Open This Book by Jesse Klausmeier for a similar inspiration of a book- within- a- book.
Take Away the A by Michael Escoffier
Lesson Idea: Invite students to create their own new words by removing a letter from various words.
