First Quarter 2021
City Suspends In-Person Services at All City Locations
PUBLIC NOTICE
For the Safety and Protection of Our Citizens, our Community, and our Staff all City of Seagoville Locations are closed for in-person services. In-person permit services are available by appointment only. To assist citizens with access to services we offer the following:
(1) Water Bill Payments by Credit Card - Credit card payments for your water bill will now be accepted by telephone. During this pandemic, those paying over the phone will not be charged any convenience fee. Those who pay online will still be charged the convenience fee.
(2) Water Bill Payments by Check - Reminder we have a drop box located at the back of City Hall in the drive-through. Please be sure to use the drop box and not the USPS Mailbox located there also. We will be retrieving payments from the drop box multiple times per day.
(3) Permits - To the extent possible, permits will be uploaded to our website at www.seagoville.us for printing and completing. Each permit will provide information on the document(s) required to be submitted and the permit fee.
Construction Permits - Completed permit application and accompanying documents, if any, may be submitted by email to cfillmore@seagoville.us or may be dropped off at our drop box located at the back of City Hall in the drive-through. For those electing to pay with a credit card, please call 972-287-2050. Those who desire to pay with check may utilize the drop box if desired.
Alarm Permits - Completed permit application and accompanying documents, if any, may be submitted by email to records@seagoville.us or may be dropped off at our drop box located at the back of City Hall in the drive-through. For those electing to pay with a credit card, please call 972-287-6838. Those who desire to pay with check may utilize the drop box if desired.
(4) Contractor Registration - Utilize the same procedure as Construction Permits.
(5) Employment Applications - Employment applications will be accepted by email or facsimile. Applications may be printed from the website, completed, and submitted by facsimile to 469-319-5044 or by email to cbrown@seagoville.us.
(6) Requests for Public Information - For all City records except Police Department reports, please email: kjackson@seagoville.us with your request or visit our website, click "Service Requests" from the Home page, select the link entitled "Request Animal Control and Open Records", and then select the link entitled "Public Information and Open Records Requests".
(7) Municipal Court Dockets will be conducted by ZOOM only.
(8) For Police Department reports and records, please email your request to records@seagoville.us .
We want to reiterate that the above service changes have been put in place as safety measures and to limit person-to-person contact. In-person permit services are available by appointment only, MONDAY through FRIDAY 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
The following City Services are the ONLY services suspended at this time:
a. Senior Citizens Activity and Transportation Center
b. Library Services and Programs (in person only)
c. Police Department fingerprinting services.

Fireworks Prohibited in the City of Seagoville - Violations May Result in up to $2,000 Fine
Violations of these codes may result in a fine up to $2,000.00.
Fire Safety
Holidays are enjoyable and come with more cooking, home decorating, and entertaining, but also come with an increased risk of fire. To protect yourself and your family, follow these safety tips:
Decorating and Lighting
•Choose decorations made of flame-resistant, flame-retardant or non-combustible materials when possible.
•Keep candles away from decorations and Christmas trees.
•Before plugging in lights, check for damage.
•Don’t overload extension cords.
•Don’t pierce light string cords with clips or nails when hanging.
•Keep children and pets away from electrical decorations.
•Make sure to turn off light strings and decorations and blow out candles before leaving the house or going to bed.
Holiday Entertaining
•Keep an eye on the stove and oven when in use.
•Keep matches and lighters away from children.
•Place candles on non-flammable surfaces and away from drafts.
•Don’t keep candles burning for more than a few hours at a time.
Holiday Heating
•Make sure any space heater you buy carries the mark of an independent testing lab.
•Maintain a 36-inch clearance between space heaters and anything flammable.
•Turn off space heaters when you leave the room or go to bed.
•Make sure the flue is open before starting a fire in the fireplace.
•Have solid-fueled heating equipment inspected annually by a professional.
•Use a fireplace screen to prevent sparks from flying into the room.
•Place fireplace and wood stove ashes in a metal container.
•Test smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms monthly.
CITY OF SEAGOVILLE PREPARATIONS BEGIN FOR 2021 CITY OFFICERS
The 2021 City Officers election will be held on Saturday, May 1st. This year’s slate of offices includes the Mayor as well as Councilmembers to represent Places 2 and 4.
The first day to file an application for a place on the ballot is Wednesday, January 13th. The application deadline is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 12th. Applications for a place on the ballot are available by appointment only at City Hall in the office of the City Secretary. Please contact Kandi Jackson at 972-287-6819 or kjackson@seagoville.us. Candidates must meet any state requirements along with the City qualifications for candidacy including: petition signed by twenty-five (25) qualified voters residing within the City and shall be a resident of the City for one (1) year.
The Mayor and all Councilmember Places are elected at large by majority vote.
Anyone not currently registered to vote has until April 1st to register in order to cast a ballot in the May 1st election. Voter registration applications may be obtained at City Hall. Questions concerning voter registration should be directed to the Dallas County Voter Registration Department at (214) 819-6389.

Sgt. David Schmidt
JUNE 24, 1972 – DECEMBER 23, 2020
On Wednesday December 23, 2020 David Lynn Schmidt, passed away at the age of 48 due to complications from COVID-19.
David was born on June 24, 1972 in Dallas Texas to Leonard and Etta Jean Schmidt. He graduated from W.W. Samuel high school in 1991 and the University of Phoenix with his Associates degree in December of 2019. David married Lori Bell on September 15, 2010. For the past 15 years he has served his community as a police officer with both the city of Desoto, and most recently the city of Seagoville where he was currently serving as a patrol sergeant.
David loved spending time with his family, traveling, collecting guns, and working on his project truck, Kandy. He also had a deep love of the men and women that he worked with at the Seagoville police department, especially those that worked for him on his shift. David was always willing to go above and beyond for anyone and truly embodied what it meant to protect and serve. His love and others first mentality will be truly missed.
David was proceeded in death by his father, Leonard, brother Tommy Louke, and his mother, Etta Jean. He is survived by his wife Lori Bell, his son Zak Schmidt & his wife Kaytlyn, as well as his brothers, Charles Ward, Mike Schmidt, and Kevin Schmidt and a host of other relatives and friends.
