Dare to Dream!
Empowering World Class Leaders and Life-Long Learners!
Happy September!
We had a great kick-off to our Friday assemblies a few weeks ago as Dr. Presley, Senior Chief of Schools and Innovation, talked to our students about leadership and our dedication to being the best. He shared the district's Leadership Values that are so aligned with our campus mission of Empowering World Class Leaders and Life-Long Learners. He shared how as leaders, we "Include All", "Invest in Growth" and "Inspire Action". He was highly complimentary of our campus as a model school for the district and challenged our students to continue to grow as compassionate, caring leaders within our community. We truly appreciate his time in connecting with our students, our mission and our district! Thank you Dr. Presley!

RRISD Chess Tournament
Round Rock ISD will be hosting a chess tournament for students in second-sixth grades. Although we do not have a formal chess team at Patsy Sommer, we do have several students who participate . If you are interested in participating in the RRISD tournament, please let me know as soon as possible. I have currently submitted our interest as "Maybe". Please see below for qualifications.
Email Tricia Marques at tricia_marques@roundrockisd.org by Friday, Sept. 6.
Details you will need to know when thinking of participating:
- Each campus will need to provide 2 volunteers--one faculty member and one chaperone (can be a parent). The faculty member should be willing to volunteer at the tournament in some capacity and to receive information for your campus.
- Students must be registered through the USCF ($17/year), as the tournament will have rankings attached.
- Student cost will be $10/student. We are working on a system on how to implement this.
- The proposed date is November 9th, location TBD. It would likely last all day (8 AM to 4 PM).
- It is for students in 2nd-6th grades only. There will be rankings-based games (under 500, 501-1000, etc.), plus possibly an open room. The divisions will be determined by student entries.
Celebrations
- Students are doing a terrific job in our cafeteria! Please praise them for following dinner table/restaurant protocol as they relax and enjoy their lunch. Kudos to our new cafeteria monitor, Joanne Gallegos, and all of our fabulous Ed. Assistants! Watch for Cafeteria Guidelines including rules & student incentives to come from Mr. Molina very soon!
- Our 5th grade science classes have been deeply involved in science explorations...observing, exploring, thinking critically while creating their plans, experimenting & discussing true science concepts! Excited about ADI on our campus! Ask them about their boards and presentations!
- What do our teachers do on Wednesday afternoons? Go home early, grade papers?? No! They are heavily involved in professional learning and great thinking! This week, we focused on creating a picture of our campus including Demographics, Perceptions, Student Achievement and Policies & Procedures. Amazing work & thinking on Wednesday! Lots of interesting information!!
