This Week At SHOJ
Jan. 22, 2021
From Mrs. Rhodes
I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go;
I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Ps 32:8
A reporter from The Leaven asked me about Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 31-Feb. 5. She wanted to know why it was important to still celebrate even though we have to change things. This was my response, "Sacred Heart of Jesus just had our 5 year accreditation review, which forces us to look back and see where we have come. Every year, I view Catholic Schools Week as the same thing – an opportunity to celebrate what we have, where we have come and to thank the people involved. This year with Covid, more than ever we need to do this. Catholic Schools are about relationships – celebrating each other and what we have together. Covid has caused us to be more concerned about many things – sometimes I think we are analyzing too much every detail of each activity. I know that even though we are going to do CSW differently this year – we still need to celebrate the reason SHOJ is here and look at the beauty our Catholic Faith has on partnering with families for K-8 education."
She then asked what I hoped the students would get out of celebrating CSW. I responded, "I hope that our students understand that we want them to prepare their minds for the future and souls for eternity – an education where we know that God has a plan for us and that we are happiest when we follow that plan is a blessing; Knowing that our prayers for each other make a difference and that we can always make a difference by praying; finally, Celebrating our Catholic School should bring pride, joy and a spirit of appreciation."
She asked if there was anything else I wanted to add. I said, "So many people have recognized what the teachers have done this year – even in the Call to Share homily – but if you were in our building, you would see the same great lesson planning and worrying about students, enthusiasm for their subjects, projects and pure joy that the students and teachers share in their special bond. Catholic School teachers are special people."

Snow Days
There is a committee of Jo Co Principals who will decide on not having kids travel to school. We do have a day or two built in and will have traditional snow days. If we use too many, we many have a virtual day. You will be notified via phone, email and facebook (it will not be on TV).
SHOJ Covid Updates
Thank You
Thank you so much for encouraging your students to participate in the Kindest Kansas Citian Contest this school year. Today, Friday January 22nd, is the final day to submit entries. We have been overwhelmed with the positive response to the contest this first year and are astounded by the quality of writing and artistic ability demonstrated in the entries by our amazing Sacred Heart students. I can hardly wait to shower the nominees with these essays and pictures at our reception in the spring and truly celebrate these special people who are the hands and feet of Jesus in our community. Reception plans are in the works. We will provide details soon.
Gratefully,

Watching the KS Legislation
Value Them Both State constitutional amendment passes House—next stop: Kansas Senate
The top legislative priority of the Kansas Catholic Bishops took a big step forward Friday with passage of the Value Them Both state constitutional amendment for life. The measure now moves to the Senate where the outcome is contingent upon a possible change of heart from a key Senator.
Value Them Both (VTB) would overturn a Kansas Supreme Court decision in 2019 that declared abortion to be a fundamental right. The ruling effectively rendered more than 20 prolife laws to be virtually unenforceable. Those laws include bans on taxpayer-funded abortion, requirements for parental consent from minors seeking an abortion and basic abortion clinic health standards.
Thanks CPS
From KC Pregnancy Clinic
We opened July 1 2020. 2020 the year of the pandemic. It appears that 2021 could be a year where politics has the potential to impact the pro-life movement in a very sad way.
But we have to look forward and seize the opportunity that this will bring for us. We know that Planned Parenthood wants to open a facility in the central core of Kansas City KS, where we are serving. That will be a strong possibility of happening now. We have to be diligent in watching for them, aggressive in reaching out to the women and families who are in the deciding stages of pregnancy. We must continue to serve, love and pray. We must also remember this is Gods plan for us to be serving this community.
We have served 38 women with their pregnancy decision. Five of these women were abortion minded and have changed their minds. These babies are to be born this spring and early summer. This has been a challenge with the threat of covid abounding everywhere. But we are rising to this challenge to serve our community. We just served 22 women this past week, giving out 35 packages of diapers with wipes and some formula. We have women taking classes on line to earn points. They will use the points to get items you have donated for their babies.
We had volunteers from Sacred Heart of Jesus school in Shawnee, helping us to package diapers, move them from the basement to our second floor suite, and to help prepare our babies clothing room. We are now preparing our sonogram room. The Knights of Columbus have approved the purchase and are collecting the monies now for our machine. We will see many more clients when the life saving sonogram machine is here. We are so grateful for this life-saving donation from the Knights of Columbus.
I want to thank each of you for your prayers, your time donated and your treasure you so generously shared with us. I am attaching a picture of the students from Sacred Heart of Jesus School in Shawnee, they moved the diapers, packaged diapers and added labels to them. Enjoy the smiles on their faces, under the masks.
We are so grateful for your support. Know you are in our prayers of thanksgiving everyday here at the clinic. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions at 913-340-7788, or email me at, donna@kcpregnancyclinic.org.
Serving Him in Life with you,
