Where Excellence is the Standard -Week of September 19, 2022
Principal's Message
Dear Lion Families,
As you may know, social media is creating horrible situations for some of our students. Students use social media as a way to have a voice, state an opinion, and support a cause. When used correctly, social media can be positive. However, social media use can also affect teens in a negative manner. It can be distracting for them during the studies, disrupting their sleep, and exposing them to bullying, rumor spreading, unrealistic views of other people's lives and peer pressure.
We care about the well-being of our students. We want them to have a great experience at Randle and we will NOT tolerate students using social media in a way that negatively impacts others. This type of behavior is unacceptable and disappointing. We expect more out of our students; we want them respect others and to treat their peers how they would like to be treated,
I am asking parents to please talk with your child about this concern and reinforce our expectations. Stress that participating in cyber bullying and/or spreading rumors and lies are never good for the campus or themselves. Students who videotape activities and bully other students will disciplined by TRHS. I believe if we work together to stress the appropriate ways to use social media, reiterate expectations and effectively communicate when there is a problem, we can create a positive learning experience for all.
On another note, I wanted to share that we are getting close to the end of the first 6 weeks grading period. Students have been working this past week to improve their averages, turn in missing work, and make up grades due to absences. It is important to finish strong. Many classes will have daily grades and tests with in the next two weeks. Students should attend tutorials and turn in all work, regardless of how late it may be. Any grade is better than a ZERO! Many students do not realize how impactful a zero is to your average. It takes three 100's to average out a ZERO to a passing grade.
Parents, we have provided every student with a Randle Planner to help them become more organized, and to help them focus on time management skills. Many students are using it appropriately and have their meetings, practices, and due dates listed. Please ask your child about the planner and help reinforce this good practice.
Finally, I would like to review steps we are putting in place to help ensure a positive climate and culture, but also support a safe and secure environment. Please take a few minutes to read through ID expectations starting this week, and the TRHS tardy policy.
- IDs: This year, as an increase to our safety measures, students and staff are required to wear their identification badge at all times. Student badges will serve as the student ID and SmartTag all in one card. We will begin 2nd period ID Check. Any student found without an ID will be issued a replacement at a cost of $5.00 and will be placed on the fines list. Being on the fine list will keep you from qualifying for exemptions.
- The majority of our students are wearing their ID's, but some are leaving it in their cars or leaving them at home. As stated above, the a new ID will be issued.
Being punctual is a key component to being successful. Being on time to class is an expectation. Below is the campus tardy policy. Please review the policy and campus expectation with your students.
- Tardies: Tardy students must have tardy pass to enter the classroom. Teacher collects tardy pass and discards the pass, so it is no longer used as a pass.
- 1st - 4th Tardy offenses are warnings.
- 5th Offense: Lunch Detention
- 6th Offense: Lunch Detention
- 7th Offense: Lunch Detention
- 8th Offense: Saturday School
- 9th “+” Offense: ISS
We want everyone on the same page. We are here to help. Our goal is to help you and your student achieve their goals.
Sincerely,
John Montelongo

Mini Pep Rally
Pep rallies encourage school spirit and provide students, faculty, sports teams and others the chance to honor and celebrate their team in preparation for the upcoming game or event. We took time to highlight our teachers, student athletes and school pride during our black-out pep rally this week. It is always good to inform everyone about the events, generate excitement for it, honor the team’s accomplishments, create school unity and demonstrate good sportsmanship.
The Mane Market is Open!
We have been so proud of our Lion's for all of the great things they have done this year. Students have been getting to class on time, wearing ID's and working hard in class. Mr. Montelongo has incororated a school store just for our students. This store has snacks, drinks, Randle gear and much more. Again, this is for the students who earned it by doing great amazing things on campus and as a birthday appreciation gift from Mr. Montelongo.
With that being said we have opened the Mane Market for students. At any given time students can and will reveive Lion Loot or tokens. Campus leaders and selected teachers have been giving out these tokens to students. These tokens are also sent with a birthday card each month. Tokens are used to purchase items from the Mane Market.
PTO - Meeting
We had our first PTO interest meeting. We had an amazing turnout with our second meeting taking place September 28, 2022. All meetings will be held the last Wednesday of each month. The focus of the RANDLE PTO is to work collaboratively in creating learning opportunities for our students. We are working to identify our student presentations for the 2022/2023 School year. We are focusing on the following topics:
- Bullying/ Cyberbullying
- The Impact of Social Media
- Texting and Driving
- Mental Health
The PTO is for everyone and we hope you can come September, 28, 2022 at 7:00 PM in the LGI room.
ID cards and Student Agendas
IDs and agendas are a requirement. All students are expected to wear their ID's daily. In order to leave the class for any reason, every student must be wearing an ID and have their agenda completed and signed by the teacher.

THIS IS IN FULL EFFECT FOR ALL EXTERIOR DOORS THIS YEAR!

- Leaving a door propped open is a safety hazard.
- All doors must be locked and closed at all times.
PICTURE ID SMART TAG REQUIRED FOR ALL LCISD STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES!
This year, as an increase to our safety measures, students and staff are required to wear their identification badge at all times. Student badges will serve as the student ID and SmartTag all in one card. This will happen during the first week!
We will also provide all students and staff with an emergency safety card to be worn with their ID Badge. This requirement is just one of several new safety additions that we are incorporating this year. The safety card contains Lamar CISD's Standard Response Protocol, important emergency numbers, as well as a QR code that links directly to the District's anonymous tip line. Badges will be distributed with student SMART Tags.
In addition, the Communications team has produced a safety video for you to share with your campus community and families that highlights the safety standards that have been in place and what additions have been implemented this year.
Cell Phone Policy
Your child's education is of the utmost importance to us, therefore we want to place a priority on minimizing distractions. Beginning Monday, August 22, 2022, Randle High School has instituted a no cell phone policy during class.
Students are allowed to bring cell phones to school and are allowed to use them before school, during lunch, and after school. Phones should not be visible and in use between passing periods or during class, unless students are provided permission by the teacher.
For clarification, cell phones can be in the student's possession, but the phone must be put away during the instruction. If a student has their cell phone visible, without teacher/staff member permission, they will be asked to give their cell phone to the teacher/staff member. They will receive their cell phone at the end of the day from the front office. The following information will be posted in every classroom:
- Phones must be put away at ALL TIMES during instructional time, unless there is an instructional purpose GIVEN by the teacher. If you refuse to follow this expectation, it will result in a discipline referral. (NOTE: Phones are allowable before 8:15 AM, during the student's 30-minute lunch time, and after 3:40 PM.)
- Ignoring a teacher or staff member when they ask that to put away your cell phone will result in a discipline referral.
- All students must have their planner hall pass signed by a teacher to be out of their scheduled class. Students without a pass will receive a discipline referral.
- Instigating, participating, or video recording any type of altercation, harassing/bullying, or any other student code of conduct offenses with your cell phone will result in a discipline referral and possible alternative school placement.
Please know that educating our Randle High School students is our number one priority, and we place a precedence on having a safe and secure school. We appreciate your support and partnership in maintaining an environment and culture where learning is the focus.
