Family Leadership Night is Next Week!
A Message From the Action Team:
Literacy Night is coming! Tuesday, October 30th. We tried to make this as easy as possible for teams. Each grade level has been assigned a candy and a literacy based activity. Most activities are fun yet simple. Candy will be provided. Your team will need to supply other items needed for the activity. If you have any questions or need help, please ask!
From Blackburn:
Students are encouraged to wear costumes & dinner is provided by Coserv...the Snackin' Wagon will be here providing hotdogs and chips for FREE!
Boo! We hope everyone is having a wonderful time Booing your Partner. We have heard about some very creative gifts that were given! Remember this year you can do several small gifts or one larger gift that equals $20. Don’t forget to reveal yourself toward the end of the month. Happy Booing!
Teams Need to Sign Up For Thursday Meeting Snacks!
From Tanya:
Conflict resolution skills are good to teach all kids in your class at least once a month to keep the strategies fresh in kids minds, when students bicker, argue, and fight a lot, or when you lose time due to student conflicts and disagreements.
Tips for problem solving
- Think first to determine whether the action or behavior was on purpose or accident and whether there is a real threat or not.
- Try to talk out the difference, disagreement, or conflict
- If talking does not resolve the problem, then agree to disagree and walk away and stay away
- If you walk away and stay away but the problem continues or you think there is a real threat, then speak to an adult like the teacher
- Remember, sticks and stones, words are words.
- Remember, people say mean and cruel things that usually are not true to get you angry and upset. When you become angry and upset about these words, you have given the other person and acted the way the other person wants you to, giving them power and control over you. Don’t allow yourself to be a victim and choose not to get upset about words that are probably not even true. If you stay calm and ignore these words, you are in control and have power over the situation.
- No matter what, follow the golden rule: Treat others as you want to be treated. In other words, treat everyone like a friend even if they are mean and do not treat you well. Many people treat others how those people treat them, so if you treat everyone like a friend, they will eventually gain respect for you and treat you like a friend too.
From the CIT:
It’s Spelling Bee Time for 3rd-5th grade! Please note that the date has been changed to DECEMBER 11th, so please mark it on your calendar. Here’s the plan:
On Monday, October 21, each 3--5 teacher will receive ten parent letters to distribute to your interested students describing the Seven Hills Bee with the spelling words attached--you might not need all ten letters, but I thought I would start with that number. If you need more than ten, let me know, and I’ll give you extras. Encourage your top spellers in your classroom to join! Remind them they only need to take a letter/words if they are willing to practice diligently each day--it is definitely challenging, but fun!
On November 11th during Habit Huddle, students who are interested in the Seven Hills Spelling Bee will take a written test given by their classroom teacher consisting of 20 chosen words from the Scripps National Spelling Bee School Spelling Bee list 2019-2020. Teachers will score the test and return to me.
The top 8 scores from each grade level will advance to the Seven Hills Spelling Bee on December 11th in the gym at 8:30 AM. This competition is oral, so students will need to understand that they will be performing in front of an audience that will include their classmates, teachers, and parents.
I will meet with students if they need support before the competition.
Thanks so much, and please let me know if you have questions!

This week’s library schedule is editable. I have some extra time slots listed. If you would like to claim a spot, put your name and grade on the doc and what you would like to use that time for. I can have a mini-lesson to support what your focus is, read books, book talk, book swap, or have a fun Halloween storytime and activity.
Please send out reminders that he Character Pumpkins will be judged on Friday the 25th and can be turned in through Tuesday.
I will begin meeting with the kiddos who signed up for UBC starting the week of October 28. Please remind your students to be reading the UBC titles. If you would like UBC books to keep in your classroom, I have copies to give away.
Campus Reminders and Updates:
Required Trainings Reminder: Don't forget to stop by the nurse to demonstrate your proficiency with the use of an Epi Pen. This is a component of the required training.
Reminder About Contract Time: Teacher contract time is 7:15 - 3:45. We extend that to 4:30 on Thursdays for staff meetings. We give back your time on Fridays by allowing staff to leave after dismissal is over. If you need to leave before 3:45, this should be discussed with Kim and staff should be signing out on the Google form when they leave campus. Thank you for your attention to this professional reminder.
Habit Huddle Connection:
Habit 1: Be Proactive
"Proactive people are the creative force of their own lives - they choose their own way and take responsibility for the results." - 7x7 Contract Book. Proactivity means that as human beings we are responsible for our own lives. Our behavior is a function of our own conscious choice based on principles, rather than a product of our conditions, based on feelings. We have the initiative and responsibility to make things happen in our lives. Remember these highly effective proactive practices:
- Pause and respond based on principles and desired results (Check out this LIM Weekly on tips for adding Pause and Respond strategies into your classrooms https://limweekly.org/just-press-pause/)
- Use proactive language
- Focus on your circle of influence
- Become a transition person
