Lynwood Unified School District

February ~ 2016

MyLUSD Google Challenge

During the summer Lynwood educators participated in the first MyLUSD Google Challenge. Participants had the opportunity to self-identify as a Rookie, Junior Varsity or Varsity level based on their comfort level with technology and the tasks they were to complete. Depending on their level, educators learned to use email and calendar more efficiently, how to collaborate in a Google Doc and how to set up a Google Classroom for use in instruction. Varsity team members developed lessons to use with their students and shared within the Varsity classroom. Congratulations to the 85 elementary and secondary teachers who completed the challenge! Keep an eye out for information about this summer’s challenge!

Safer Internet Day 2016

On February 9, four students were hand selected from Firebaugh High School by Mr. Ramirez, teacher for GENYES, to attend Safer Internet Day 2016 at Universal Studios. The theme of this conference was to “play your part for a better internet.” Students were not only exposed to the conversation of online bullying prevention but also became active participants in developing a safer internet action plan at their school site. This movement is supported from inspirEd, sponsored by Facebook. For schools that are interested in creating a safer internet environment visit inspirEd.
