Pies for Funds...

The Beckman Habitat for Humanity club recently held a pie booth fundraiser to raise money for Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, a non-profit organization dedicated to giving everyone a decent place to live. Their mission is to bring people together whilst spreading hope within the community. During the fundraiser, students had the opportunity to pie some of their teachers - and some teachers even pied each other! Overall, there was tremendous positive energy and participation in the event. A big thank you to the teachers and coaches that volunteered to get pied. They were: Mr. Bowman, Mr. Chow, Mr. Beilin, Mr. Gonzalez, Mr. Bohn, Mr. Sit, Coach McBain, and Coach Fischel. We raised a total of 386 dollars by selling 120 pies. All the proceeds will be sent to Habitat for Humanity of Orange County to help fund their goal of providing affordable housing to all.

Construction Updates

CTE/Gym/Weightroom Project

The CTE building is progressing nicely and is slated to be completed by the Fall of 2023. The building is fully enclosed now and will see insulation and wiring added soon.

The gym/weight room site has been graded and is ready for concrete. In the next few weeks, trenches will be dug and the concrete foundation will be poured. Barring any issues, the gym is slated to be completed in the winter of 2023.

Lights for Auxiliary Field

The bases for 4 field lights were recently installed. The upright poles and lights are set to be delivered in a few weeks. The project is set to be completed towards the middle of December.

Medical Skills Day

On Wednesday Nov 30th, Beckman's Medical Certificate Program hosted a new event for students called "Medical Skills Day". Students rotated through 8 stations where they learned and experienced: How to read basic X-rays, CPR, practice injections w/ syringes, how to draw blood from a practice Phlebotomy Practice Arm, learned about how EKGs/ECGs are used, learned about oxygen saturation in blood, performed a hands-on experience of suturing a wound, learned about good medical bedside manner, how to take vitals of patients, how to calculate BMI, human anatomy and practiced using a EpiPen trainer pen. Close to 100 juniors and seniors in MCP Year 3 participated in the event and were taught by 16 volunteers (Physician Assistants and Nurse) from Chapman University's PA School and CHOC Childrens Hospital. Our school's Medical Certificate Program hosts 20 events a year on-campus at Beckman and it's main mission is to educate, serve, mentor and inspire our Beckman High School students to learn more about different careers in healthcare.
