The Tohickon Golden Eagle
March 2022
Dear Tohickon Families,
Spring is around the corner and, as we move into the month of March, we have three important events that we want to share with you. The month begins with our Sixth Grade Orientation, followed by our Spring Musical and concludes with the Minding Your Mind Presentation.
On Thursday, March 3, we will be hosting the annual Sixth Grade Orientation for all current sixth grade parents. All sixth-grade parents from Gayman, Groveland and Pine Run are invited to attend. There will be an informal open house with our curriculum supervisors from 6:30 until 6:55 PM, followed by the formal presentation at 7:00 PM. Our Jazz Band will be playing for parents, beginning at 6:30 PM in the auditorium. If you are a parent of a Jazz Band player, you are welcome to attend in order to see your child's performance. We look forward to seeing all of our new parents on March 3.
Students are making final preparations for our Spring Musical, “The Sound of Music.” The event will take place beginning at 7:00 PM on March 10, 11 and 12. There will be a matinee on March 12 at 2:30 PM. We are really, really excited for our first regular performance in two years. The students and staff have worked extremely hard to put this performance together. The school, for the first time, will provide a “Spring Preview” presentation to all grade levels on Wednesday, March 9. Students involved in the musical will not attend classes on that day, but will have some study hall time built into the day so that they can keep up with their academics. Please come out for the musical to support our students. To purchase tickets, please use the link below.
In addition to these events, Tohickon Middle School will be hosting a “Minding Your Mind” presentation for students on March 22. This interactive presentation will focus on emotional wellness, helping to teach students how to recognize and cope with stress, anxiety and depression. The presentation will be facilitated by Evan Transue, who is a former Central Bucks student. This presentation has already taken place at three of the five middle schools in the district. Several staff members from those schools have indicated that this was one of the best presentations they have ever seen. So, we are really looking forward to this event near the end of the month.
In closing, I am hopeful that this message finds you and your family healthy and well. If you have any questions and/or concerns regarding these events, please contact the Tohickon Guidance Office at 267-893-3310 or the main office at 267-893-3300.
Sincerely,
Kevin Marton
Tohickon Principal

Message From the Main Office
A continued request for our families who use the car rider drop off zone in the morning, please pull all the way forward to the flagpole to ensure a smooth drop off. The doors closest to the library open each morning at 7:00 AM.
A request to share with your students; as a reminder, student cell phones must be away from 7:30 until 2:30, unless directed by teachers. Students with their cell phones out or using their phones may receive a cell phone violation and a school consequence.
Please remind your students that if they are not feeling well, please go to the nurse. If a student calls/messages their parents on their own about being ill without going to the nurse may receive a cell phone violation and an unexcused will be listed in the daily attendance.
Attendance Policies & Information
The Compulsory Attendance Law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania requires that an absence excuse submitted by the parent or guardian be on file for every day of the student’s absence. Our new attendance procedures allow parents to submit this absence request via the parent portal. These requests serve as the excuse for the absence and parents will not be required to an excuse electronically or written.
Tardy Students
We have had an increasing amount of student tardiness this year. A student is considered tardy if they are late to school or class. Students are expected to be in their seat by 7:30. There has been increasing traffic in the morning due to busses and car line; please be sure to add extra time to your morning commute. Student who are tardy more than five times will receive an after-school detention.
Vacation Requests
We are no longer requiring Vacation Forms. These requests can be made through the parent portal. Please be sure that your student is communicating with their teachers ahead of time, so they can get a plan together for missing work, instruction, and assignments. Please remember that a maximum of five days per student per school year can be approved.
Appointments
Please use the portal to report times when your child may be arriving late or leaving early. When picking your child up from school, please come to door #1 and have your ID ready. Please make sure to communicate the absence in advance to avoid having to call into classrooms during instructional times. Please enter student appointments by 9:00 am if possible. This allows us to get passes to students during their advisory.
Please contact Tohickon’ s Attendance Secretary, Dawn Meadows with any questions. She can be reached at 267-893-3302 or dmeadows@cbsd.org

Message from the School Nurse
Please continue to remind your children the best way to avoid germs is to wash their hands often with soap and water. Children who have cold symptoms or a fever above 100.3 degrees should remain home until fever free without medication. We encourage students to carry water bottles to remain hydrated throughout the school day. We are starting to see students with seasonal allergy symptoms. Please remember to give medication at home. Students are not permitted to carry over the counter medication on their person. Call the health office if you have any questions regarding the district’s medication policy. Let’s hope for a calm end to Winter!
