Save the Date - Pinehill School Art Exhibition is coming!
Every two years we hold an art exhibition to celebrate the talents and efforts of our students and staff in the area of visual arts. Covid has altered our usual timeline for this. However we are delighted to announce that our Pinehill School Art Exhibition will be going ahead this term. Save the date, Monday 19th September 5pm is our Opening Night and an event not to be missed. Our Kapa Haka group will be opening this special event and your children can show you the masterpieces they have been working on all year which will be on display at the exhibition. You will be absolutely wowed with an incredibly colourful display of art, covering a range of media. More information to come. In the meantime, block out your calendars for this exciting event.

Top Playground
Last year our student house leaders worked hard on a presentation in all classes from Y0-Y6 on a new top playground design. Our playground experts put our children’s voting together into a super flash new playground design. The time has come to put the paper into playground construction. On Monday our top playground closed so that the dismantling of the existing playground (which is 25 years old and ready to retire) can take place and ground work can start in preparation for the installation. The goal is for the new playground to be complete by Monday 19th September so we can have a special opening as part of our 25th birthday week celebrations.
Staff Update
Our lovely Lisa Everett has been offered, and accepted, a position at Nukumea Primary School, starting in Term 4 this year. Nukumea Primary is situated in Orewa, and it is a brand new school, still being built. Lisa will be part of the foundation teaching staff. This is a huge opportunity for Lisa to grow in her career and one that does not come around very often.
The school will farewell Lisa on Friday 30th September at an assembly at 1:45pm. Current Whanau are welcome to join us, as we continue to adhere to Orange Light settings and indoor number limitations. We are so very proud of Lisa and wish her all the very best with her exciting new journey ahead.

CULTURAL WEEK
Parent and Family Class Sharing
Term 3 Week 2 is our Culture and Identify celebration at Pinehill School. To celebrate we would like to invite parents into the classroom to share their culture in Week 2, 1st August - 5th August.
Some suggestions are
read a story in your home language to the class or small group
share pictures/photos, teach our children a game
share a dance from your culture
play a musical instrument etc.
Please email your child’s teacher about what you would like to share and when you are available.
Parade
As part of our Cultural Celebration we are holding a Celebration Parade on
Monday 8th August at 11.30am.
You are very welcome to come and watch or take part in the parade, we would love to see as many parents and caregivers there as possible. Please see the school map below displaying the trail we will walk for the parade. Some of our cultural groups will be performing and we have a special surprise, depending on the weather!
Our children will have the option to dress in their cultural dress and march around the school with the country’s flag of choice.
We understand that children and families may identify with more than one country. For them to be able to express their ethnicity we are asking parents to talk with their child about their family ethnicity. Rather than teachers directing children to a country, children can parade carrying two flags that symbolise the country they identify with and the one where they were born. Please talk to your child/ren about this so they are able to communicate with their teacher which flag group they will be walking with during the parade. We hope that in this way everyone’s ethnicity can be shared and celebrated.
Shared lunch
After our Parade on Monday 8th August we are having a shared lunch in classrooms.
You are invited to send your child in with a small plate of food to share from your culture. Please be aware we will not be able to reheat food, cut up or provide cutlery. Food will need to be pre prepared and ready to eat and enjoy.
Please be mindful that there are children in the school with peanut allergies and would appreciate peanuts not being in food sent to school. All food must have an ingredient list so children can pick what they are able to eat. We will be encouraging them to try something different.
A big thank you for your ongoing support.
All parents attending are asked to sign in through the SchoolApp.

It’s Fun Food Friday this week! Online orders close tonight, Wednesday 3rd August. Don’t
miss out! Please place your orders using the Kindo Online Shop. Lunch will be delivered to
your child’s classroom at lunchtime. For every order, we raise $1 for the school. We
appreciate your support!
We will be selling snacks in the hall foyer at lunchtime between 12.40 pm and 1 pm. From
the health point of view, we suggest 1-2 snacks and a $5 note is enough for your child. We
encourage children only buy snacks for their own consumption. Please let your child know
that the parent helpers may turn them away if they spend more than $5 per purchase and/or
buy for their friends.
Jesters Pie Day is BACK this term, and it’s on EVERY TUESDAY!! Orders close

apologise for any inconveniences caused)
