Principal's Message

#beamazing

This week's message is going to be kind of short.

There is no shortage of "amazing" as you walk around the building and/or talk to the fantastic people who inhabit the classrooms and offices of Murphy Junior High.

There are artistic displays in the hallways and offices. We will get to hear the musical talents of the students in our bands (tonight) and choirs (10/20) over the next seven days. Our athletic teams are transitioning into the winter season and we'll shortly get to see our Poms, Cheer, Basketball and Wrestling teams in action. There are a group of committed students who are diligently learning lines for the fall play performance. We are fortunate to have amazing parents who are getting ready to provide a night of fun at the PTO Monster Mash.

In my visits to classrooms throughout the building, I am continually impressed--amazed by all the great things that students are doing in class. From improving the function/design of backpacks in science classrooms to in-depth analysis of the presidential election in US History, there are so many great things students are doing at Murphy.

I invite you to come to any and all of our evening events coming up over the next few weeks. Additionally, we will be hosting Parent/Teacher Conferences in November. Information on sign up can be found below.

Keep on being amazing.

Congrats!

Congratulations to Carter Reed for qualifying for the IESA State Cross Country meet and smashing his personal record by about 30 seconds to place 3rd overall. Good luck in Bloomington!

STEMfest 2016

Ms. Ramsbottom and the STEM Club visited NIU for STEMfest 2016 last Saturday. While they didn't come away with any awards they had a great time exploring the various exhibits.

Parent/Teacher Conference Sign Up

There are times set aside for Parent/Teacher conferences at Murphy on Thursday, November 3 from 4 to 8pm and Friday, November 4 from 8am to 1pm. As we did last year, We will be using an online sign-up system called PTCFast to schedule conferences.

Parents can access the online sign-up system at:

https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Murphy_Junior_High_School.

You will be prompted to select the teachers with whom you would like to conference. Teachers are listed by date and last name, e.g. Nov 3 Smith or Nov 4 Smith.

Select ALL the teachers that you would like to conference (even if you have multiple students you can select any teachers) with and then click submit. Follow the on-screen instructions and you will be able to see available conference times. If you do not have access to an online system but would like to schedule conferences, please contact Ms. Shrum at 630-608-5109. If you’re unable to select a conference time that meets your schedule, please contact the individual teachers to see if you can set up a time for a phone conference or another in-person conference.

The system is live as of 10/13/15 and available to schedule conferences.

Neolithic Farming in World History

How did early man turn raw grains into usable food? Students in Ms. Miller's World History classes got a "taste" of the work that is required to hand grind grain with primitive tools.

The Murphy PTO is excited to announce their first ever Teacher Wish List Drive. It's easy to participate and is a great way to show the MJHS teachers how much you appreciate them! The PTO sent questionnaires to each staff member and compiled a list of the most frequently requested items. Donations can be left in the collection box in the main office starting Monday, September 12th (your student can bring them in or you can drop them off). The PTO will surprise the teachers with items from their wish list, thanks to your generous donations. Big or small...each donation counts! You can sign up to donate by using the link below. Some of the items we will be collecting include gift cards, office supplies, and snacks. For a full list of wish list items, please visit the Sign-Up Genius page. Thank you for continued support!

Join the PTO

If you haven't done so already, make a donation to the PTO and join up. Donation forms can be found here and returned to the Murphy Main Office. A $25 family donation gets your student a ticket to the PTO Monster Bash.
