Vista Oaks Charter School's Petition for Renewal was APPROVED!
We are so excited to share that after a multi-week process of sharing our petition for renewal to the Byron Board of Education that they have approved our continuation! There are so many people to thank for this success! We are grateful to the Byron Interim Superintendent, Rami Muth, for her support of our program. Pam Tyson, from the County Office of Education, was our mentor and cheerleader through the process. Our teacher and Data Analyst Kendall Micco worked endlessly to help prepare the requirements of the petition. Many of our incredible staff and students came to share their heartfelt experiences and support for our school, and truly wrote the story of who we are for the Board to consider. Our fearless leader, Joy, eloquently presented the passion and purpose of what we do and offer here at Vista Oaks and it was an incredible experience!
We are so appreciative to the Byron Board for simultaneously seeing areas in which we need growth and in which we bring value. We're so excited and grateful that we get to continue on this path with all of our wonderful Vista Oaks families.

Financial Aid: The Process
Step 1.
Apply for Fafsa. This is money you can get from the Federal Government and is called the Pell Grant. Awards vary. Due Date: March 2nd! https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa
Step 2.
Fafsa then reports your info to California Student Aid Commission aka CalGrant!
CSAC will award you money based on your need and the college that you are attending; Community College students will receive less because it is less expensive, but these awards can still be enough to cover the amount of tuition and books.
Vista Oaks will share your GPA with CSAC. If you get a message that says we did not upload your grades, it’s ok! They have issues every day matching schools’ info and the Federal Govt’s info. It can be fixed! Just let us know.
Step 3.
You must create a Webgrants Account www.mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov
This account will allow students to access information about their Cal Grant Award ONLY!! They can also make changes to their address, or change school designations. This is where you will pick the school you will be attending. Students will then be added to the school’s roster.
Step 4.
Governor’s Promise: 1st Year of Jr. College Tuition For Free! This is a completely separate process. (I know what you’re thinking, complicated, right? You aren’t wrong!) Students have to apply for Governor’s Promise (formerly known as the Bogg Waiver) through their college as well. Select the “Apply for Financial Aid” tab on the college’s website. Completing this process is worth it for a full year of tuition paid if you qualify.
Step 5.
Check with your Financial Aid Office at the college to verify how money is disbursed.
The Financial Aid office at the college can explain to you how they give out award money. They will also have info about other opportunities for free money for school such as scholarships and other grants available.
If you have an IEP or are the first in your family to go to college, you can talk to the EOPS office at each institution as well. This office will also help with paying for textbooks, giving out bus passes, and allowing students priority enrollment in addition.
GOOD LUCK!
Ayuda Financiera: El Proceso
Paso 1.
Paso 4.
Promesa del Gobernador: ¡1er año de Jr. College Matrícula gratis! Este es un proceso completamente separado. (Sé lo que estás pensando, complicado, ¿verdad? ¡No te equivocas!)
¡BUENA SUERTE!
