JLMS Principal Newsletter
Start of the 2020-21 School Year (Edition 2)
First Day - September 1
We will also invite our new in-person 7th and 8th grade students to join us from 8:30-10:00 a.m. to learn about JLMS, begin making relationships with adults in our building, and get introduced to Canvas, our online learning platform. We ask that parents arrange transportation in order for their student to attend during that time.
In the afternoon, we will have all virtual students meet with their teachers to begin the relationship building process, learn their daily schedules, and learning expectations. Virtual Students Chromebook Pickup & Other Materials
In addition, we are working with our staff this week to identify any materials that would need to be picked up at JLMS for our virtual students.
COVID-19 Health Screening Checklist
You have heard many times that the district is implementing guidelines to Stay Safe to Stay Open. In order to do this, we need families to assess their student(s) everyday before sending them to school. We are using the guidance of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department to identify symptoms that would lead to a student being assigned to virtual learning. Please be aware that if your child has a specific symptom or combination of symptoms, that is assumed they have a probable positive case of COVID-19. Your student would then be assigned to virtual learning. The student would be able to return to school once they have a negative COVID-19 test and our symptom free. If the student does not get a COVID-19 test, then the student can return to school after 10 days of symptom(s) onset and 24 hours fever free without use of medication and improved symptoms. If your student begins to display symptoms at school, we will contact families and the student will need to be picked up immediately. It is crucial that all your personal contact information and emergency contact information is current in Skyward. We will work with closely with families when student illness occurs. Below is a link to the checklist that you can use as part of your morning routines before sending your student(s) to school.
Below I have also linked the parent Q&A presentation that was used in early August. If you go to slide 17, it will provide time frames that students would be assigned to virtual learning if they have a positive COVID-19 test or are in close contact with an individual that has tested positive.
