Gigantic Rock Formations, Scenic Views, Hiking Trails & FUN!

An Attraction Since 1890!

Rock City Park first operated by the traction line, a local rail system which welcomed thousands of visitors by trolley. Today visitors come to enjoy the natural beauty of the rock formations, the hiking trail, the spectacular views and the museum.

Purpose of Outing: Educational and Social

Students may record 60 minutes of History, 60 minutes of Science and 60 minutes of Language Arts for this outing on the OLS.

Ticket Prices:

$4.50 for adults

$2.50 for children ages 6-12 years

Free for children ages 0-5 years

10:45am-11:00am: Arrival and Sign In

11:00am-12:00pm: Hiking the Trail

12:00pm-1:00pm: Lunch (Please bring a bagged lunch and drinks for your family)

1:00pm-2:00pm: Museum and Dismissal

Learning Objectives

Students will:

  • Explore the gigantic rock formations on a 45 minute, family-friendly hike.
  • Learn about the history of Rock City Park and the rock formations.
  • Experience amazing scenic views from both on top and down below the formations.
  • Witness the largest exposure of quartz conglomerate.
  • Tour the museum, rock shop and fluorescent rock room.
  • Investigate the virtual video tour.
  • Socialize with their peers.

Don't Forget!

1: In consideration of our students with serious allergies, please refrain from bringing nut (food) products and balloons.


2: As always, to limit the spread of possible flu, please do not attend a PA Virtual event if you have had a fever within 24 hours of the event.


3: For safety: All students need to be accompanied by a parent or learning coach. All students must wear shoes/sneakers for the entire school event and please refrain from bringing pets.


4: If there is a possibility of severe weather, please check Blackboard the day of the event in case the event is cancelled due to weather.


5: All PA Virtual events are tobacco free.
