Three Thank Yous
1:1 Important Information
Because of the adjustments we need to make, please note the following BELL info... we will now only have ONE BELL in the morning at 9am ONLY. Please begin telling your kids this ASAP! No more "late bell." Also, we will not be ringing a 3:55 bell in the afternoon to return to 4a classes on B days. Teachers will just need to remember to dismiss students to 4a on those days. We will try to do reminder announcements this first week or so.
Please be proactive in laptop placement in your classrooms, especially if you are in a non-traditional classroom. Laptops should never be placed on the floor as a student could accidentally step on it and break a screen. Laptops should always be in a protected and safe location when students are not using them. If students ask why they cannot go in book bags (excluding 8th graders going to lunch), it's for protective reasons as many times laptops get squished in book bags and damages occur, so we are trying to help them.
Apply for the EMPOWER grant!!!!
Nuts and Bolts
Congrats to Ms. Royster and our math teachers on being the recipients of a mini grant from NCCTM of almost 800$ for math materials and resources! Please remember we have a useful tool for contacting parents that speak another language. Just get with any administrator or counselor and we can use our "phone a translator" service that has been gifted to us. We are piloting this program, and so far only ONE TEACHER has used this! Please take advantage of this opportunity! Also, teachers, when you leave notes for subs, please be sure to put in duty posts and times in your lesson plans so your sub can help us keep our students safe. Also, please remember that every teacher in the building has access to a google master calendar in which ALL events will be placed online through the main office, aux gym, regular gym, LGIA, etc.
Benchmark Scores and Info
Teachers who have a Benchmark subject, it's perfectly fine to share with students their scores! You're also welcome to share scores with parents. We would recommend sharing the "percent correct" and "projected percentile" score as those are more compatible with the EOG. Also, administrators are reviewing the benchmark data with you. Please know we recognize this is already "old news" since we gave the benchmark 2 weeks ago. We have shared this concern with district officials in the delay in getting scores to everyone. Please know we will do everything we can to get these scores back to you as quickly as possible so that you may use them to alter your instruction appropriately for kids.
HS Program Choice Applications are in process!
High school Program Choice applications have begun. Please know that some 8th grade students may ask you to fill out a teacher recommendation. These recommendations need to be returned to Ms. Duncan by December 20th, in a sealed enveloped with a signature across the seal. Also, students should only be asking teachers they had in 7th or 8th grade, NOT 6th grade. Any questions see Ms. Duncan.
Auditorium Concerns
In our LGIA in the past month, there have been missing cords, messed up microphones, misplaced items from the sound booth, etc, so we’ve had to put tighter controls on the LGIA so that we know who is using it when in case things like this to occur. Therefore, all are welcome to use the LGIA, but it must be booked through Ms. Foster first, and she will provide you with entry into the LGIA. All LGIA events are in our google master calendar, so you can always check that when you’re interested in using the space. We want the space to be used, but we also need to protect the equipment we have.
Ed Handbook Reminders
Just a reminder the "minor" referrals are not for administrative intervention. They are simply documentation of behaviors that when they become consistent enough that there is record for when a major referral needs to be written. It is the teacher's responsibility to write the MAJOR referral after 3 minors have been written for the same type of behavior. When this happens, the teacher still should call the parent to inform them of the behavior, and then inform the parent that b/c it's happened 3 times already, that you have to write a major referral for administration, and that admin will be calling, too, after they speak with the student. We hope this clears up some confusion. Just ask an admin if still unsure.
