Advent Happiness Has Arrived!

St. Mary's is busy learning about and celebrating the Advent season! Each class is preparing an ornament for the Jesse Tree and learning about the Old Testament leading up to Christ's birth in the process. This is a meaningful tradition at our school and one that you are welcome to come into the school to see. The majestic tree is located in front of the windows in the Commons, offering the perfect backdrop to our school's nativity. In addition, the entire school enjoyed a visit from St. Nicholas on Monday. We are always excited to visit with St. Nicholas on his Feast Day and enjoy the special treats he leaves in our shoes!

Thank you to Grace Douglas and her family for sharing the Story of the Candy Cane with our school community on Thursday. Grace gave each member of our school community a candy cane on Thursday morning, complete with the beautiful story of the candy cane and what it represents. Thank you for generously sharing a Christmas treat with our school! In addition to holiday treats, students have been busy learning and creating with the spirit of Advent in their hearts.

Don't forget that Christmas Programs for all grades are taking place this week. The Preschool program for Early Learners, Advanced Learners, and Pre-K students is scheduled for Tuesday, December 14 starting at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. The Elementary program for Kindergarten - 5th Grade students is scheduled for Wednesday, December 15 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Mary's Church. Dress attire for both programs is holiday dress with no jeans, please.

4th and 5th Grade Enrichment Opportunities

Mrs. Lone will be starting her awesome after school enrichment program for 4th and 5th graders, held on Thursday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in her classroom. The 4th and 5th grade students will rotate each week, with roughly two opportunities for each grade per month. During her enrichment program, Mrs. Lone will take what students are learning in the classroom and expand on the information with engaging projects and activities, including those related to current events and holidays. The cost will be $5 per session for each student attending.

5th graders will have their first class on January 6 and 4th graders will have their first class on January 13. If your child is interested in participating, please bring a note with your child's name, classroom teacher, and your phone number. Please respond as soon as possible so your child's name may be added to the list (in the order they are received) and supplies may be purchased. Enrichment classes are capped at 15 students each week.

Please note that this is an after school activity, the expectations and rules that pertain during the school day still apply. If a student does not conduct himself or herself in a manner that reflects these expectations, they may lose the privilege of attending. Students not picked up from Mrs. Lone's classroom door promptly at 4:30 p.m. will be checked into After School Care.

Christmas Festivities

St. Mary's students and staff will be celebrating Christmas together on Friday, December 17 starting with Mass at 8:30 a.m. Following Mass, class Christmas parties will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end around 11:00 a.m. Classroom teachers and/or room parents have been in contact with families about bringing supplies and other needed items. Lunch will be served in classrooms before dismissal. Please do not forget that school dismisses at noon on December 17 and there is no After School Care available. Thank you for ensuring your child is picked up promptly when school dismisses at noon.

Second Semester Car Line Hiatus

Speaking of afternoon pickup, when classes resume on Monday, January 3, St. Mary's daily car line will be going on hiatus. We are suspending daily afternoon carline and welcoming all parents back into the school when classes resume after Christmas Break!

Even though we will not be dismissing students in car line on a daily basis, please keep your family's car line signs. We will be dismissing students using the car line on Noon Dismissal Days once a month and on other days if need dictates.

Since we have not dismissed students from classroom doors since March 2020, please review and follow these guidelines:

  • School dismisses at 3:10 p.m. each afternoon. School doors at the front entrance and preschool entrance will release each afternoon at 3:05 p.m. to allow parents to enter the school. Please do not ring the bell to be let into the school before 3:05 p.m. unless you are picking your child up before 3:10 p.m. dismissal for an appointment. If you are picking up your child early for an appointment, he or she will be waiting for you in the school office.
  • As a reminder, teachers will dismiss students to parents from their classroom doors after the 3:10 p.m. bell rings, or when the class is ready to be dismissed. We ask that parents wait quietly and patiently outside the classroom doors and not enter the classroom.
  • If your child is not picked up from his or her classroom door by 3:20 p.m., he or she will be walked down the hallway and checked into After School Care in the Commons.
  • Please park and exit the parking lot with care, including at a slow speed. Please make sure that you are aware of your child/children at all times, keeping young children very close so they are holding hands/walking next to you.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to stop by the school office or give us a call, we are happy to help you in any way that we are able.

Outstanding Lunch Balances

St. Mary's free lunch program went into effect on Thursday, November 4. If your child ordered lunch before this date, your family may still have a lunch balance. Many families have not paid lunch balances from August, September, and October...all of which are past due. To check on your child's lunch balance, go to your FACTS Family Portal and click the lunch tab to see what your balance is and pay it promptly. Thank you for your attention, if you have any questions please call the school office at 623-1465.
