Mrs. Baker presented AIG information to each of the 7 school employees throughout the district. Each school's Lead Teacher and Mrs. Baker explained the identification process for the Academically/Intellectually Gifted Program. The Lead AIG teachers in the district are:

Students that scored 95% or higher on the 2017 EOG test (Reading or Math), received an invitation into the Duke Tip program, There are two categories: 4-6th Grade Talent Search and 7th Grade Talent Search. The following students received this outstanding recognition.

HCHS Ladies Take Home the Win!
October 24, 2017, HCHS competed in the 2017 Celebration of Women in Mathematics at Elizabeth City State University. HCHS won 1st place in the Math Essay Contest “I Want To Be Like Her” and 3rd place in the Math Sprint and Math Cheers Competition . The celebration consisted of a program of workshops, talks, and math competitions for middle/high school girls and their teachers. The purpose of this event is to encourage young women to continue their study of mathematics and to raise the level of mathematics competency in northeastern North Carolina.
Aquila Miller, a junior, won 1st place beating out other high schools that competed in the Math Essay Contest . The "I Want to be Like Her" essays are a chance for girls to read about the success stories of women in mathematics. They then write a short essay on why they could look up to and follow women who have overcome hardships and striven for success in their fields.
HCHS Lady Bears won the 3rd place for the Math Sprint Competition. Members of the winning team for the Math Sprint Competition were AIG Students: Shadavia Holloway, Zaria Hunter, Whitney Manley, and Tyanna Horton.
Middle School Parent Night
During this time, expectations of the 2017-18 AIG Program, referral process, Identification changes, resources and services were discussed. Parents had an opportunity to ask group or individual questions. There will be a parent night scheduled at each school.
