Dear Parents:

Here's the latest news on the DC trip as well as some school items for the week.

Junior National Honor Society

The JNHS induction ceremony will take place Tuesday, March 17 at 2:00 in the auditorium. Parents are invited to attend. There will be a reception in the commons following the ceremony.

To : Parents of 7th & 8th grade band students:

4 students will be traveling to Bellaire on Wednesday, Mar. 11, to represent our band in the District II Honor Band! They will rehearse all day and play a concert in the evening at 7:00 P.M. The concert will be open to the public and Mr. Stutzman will be available to bring students back if parents are not able to attend! Our students will be transported by Mr. Stutzman and they should wear Rayder Gear during the day and dress in their concert uniform at night! We will be hosting the 2nd annual Charlevoix County wide middle school massed band on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Bands will attend from East Jordan, Ellsworth, Boyne City, and Charlevoix! There will be over 150 middle school students on stage and they will be working with Dr. Tim Topolewski who will direct the groups! Each band will play one or two numbers and Dr. Tim will clinic them …. the individual performances will be followed by the bands meeting in mass and rehearsing numbers that have been pre arranged by the directors!

Jr. High Solo & Ensemble will be held on Saturday April 11, 2015 …. students are rehearsing their music and will be ready to perform in Boyne City on the Saturday following our return from Spring Break!

Our spring concert will be held on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. We would like to organize a band parent group that would form prior to this concert and begin making plans to welcome the new band director that will be hired prior to the end of the school year. I am planning to work with the new director and help mentor them into their position and be available to work side by side during the fall of next year!

Study Lab

We have a study lab available in the media center after school Monday-Thursday until 4 PM for students who need extra help. We can assist with transportation if needed.

Washington DC Registration

The all-inclusive price of the trip is $999 and the deposit is $99. You can register by calling 1-800-468-5899. Because we are getting so close to our departure date, you can no longer register online. Our trip ID number is 105608.

We have already reserved hotel rooms and purchased event tickets, so your student will be placed on a wait list until we determine whether there is space available to add students. I would hate to turn people away, so please let me know if you plan to register your student and I will alert our reservationist.

Itinerary Updates

We are excited to have the opportunity for our students to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery. We will have an essay contest in April to determine which students will have that honor.

Other scheduled events include: a dinner cruise on the Potomac River, Mt. Vernon, the National Cathedral, the Newseum, the Air and Space Museum, and of course all the monuments and memorials. We are waiting to hear about a few more appointments and will let you know as they come in.

Oleson's Slips

The next set of Oleson's slips will be sent in on Thursday, March 26. Please remember to bundle the slips in groups of 10 and attach an adding machine tape with a running total. Make sure slips are clearly labeled with your child's name.

I will have one last payment sent to Worldstrides at Spring Break. Any overpayments or monies still in a student's account will be issued to the student for spending money.

Sports Calendar

Track will start after Spring Break. Students must have a current physical on file to participate.
