Math 24 Tournament
The Math 24 Competition was the culminating event after two months of practicing the Math 24 game in grades 3rd through 6th. This opportunity was designed to challenge math students with a fun way to discover patterns among numbers. It is a game that requires divergent thinking as well as speed. All 3rd, 4th 5th and 6th grade students were invited to participate in practices at lunch, recess, homework and class time. We had 7th and 8th grade accelerated math students and AHS students judge this tournament. There were parents who were able to help with the tournament as well. Congratulations to all those who competed.
The following students placed:
3rd grade: 1st place Kaitlyn Tarkowski, 2nd place Bella Smith, 3rd place Cameron Parsons
4th grade: 1st place Bryce Lau, 2nd place Avry Lindmark, 3rd place Hannah Arabiyat
5th grade: 1st place Jackson Brunner, 2nd place Olivia Smith, 3rd place Wade Lindmark
6th grade: 1st place Zachary Smith, 2nd place Christopher Norcross, 3rd place Aidan Jacobsen

Summer Office Hours
Summer Learning
Children need to continue exercising their brains as well as their bodies this summer, but finding interesting opportunities can be challenging. Luckily, the Stone Bank School Library is here to help! Check out our website: www.stonebankschoollibrary.weebly.com/summer-learning.html for lots of great resources including:
- One Middle School, One Book - This summer our entire middle school will read Pax by Sara Pennypacker... on the list of potential nominees for the 2017 Newbery Award!
- Summer Reading Programs - Here you'll find a variety of programs in which kids can participate (and earn fabulous prizes) as well as some recommended reading lists from our librarian, Mrs. Brannan.
- Recommended Coding Resources
- Other Summer Learning Opportunities - Including summer STEM camps at UW-Waukesha.
Reminders
- The library is closed and inventory has begun. We are still missing 265 books. Please be sure to go through your child(s) back packs and return them back to the library as soon as possible. Overdue notices will go out next week after inventory has been completed. Books that have not been returned will be declared lost and replacement prices will be charged.
- Parents will need to pick up any medication for their students that was left here in the health room for the school year. Students will NO longer be able to bring the medications home with them. Any medication not picked up by 6/17/16 will be discarded by the school.
- Please make sure that all athletic uniforms are returned to the school office immediately. We are still missing several uniforms.
Middle School Summer Opportunities for Reading
Summer is here!!!
Summer is a great time of year to get outside and enjoy the Wisconsin weather. I always like to take a chance to remind students that it is also a great time to read. Find something you have an interest in and pick a book about that subject.
Example: I love sports and I love reading about stories concerning sports teams so every summer I read a couple of books about professional athletes or teams. I also read the sports page of the newspaper every day :)
As a teacher, I want you to find a book about something you like and read it. I do not require you to fill out reading logs or do anything like that. However, I will tell you some of my personal goals. For example, I make it a point to read for twenty minutes every day during the summer. Sometimes this is one hour twice a week because I am travelling. Other weeks it is exactly twenty minutes each day in the newspaper. Either way works. Summer is all about practice and enjoying what you are reading.
If you need help with finding something to read, e-mail me or message me and I will give you suggestions of books I have read and enjoyed. The local book store is a great place to find people who can point you in the direction of something you might like to read. Finally, the local library is also a great and FREE place to get books.
So, remember, find something you are interested in, kick up your feet and read a little bit every day.
Sincerely,
Mr. Zastrow
