Webster Central School District
2021-22 REOPENING UPDATE #2
August 13, 2021
Dear Webster CSD Families,
We are getting excited as we get closer to a full-time, in-person opening of the 2021-22 school year on Wednesday, September 8!
We have heard from many members of our school community regarding the best way forward to open our schools. We appreciate the time and effort that you have taken to participate in our ThoughtExchanges. The overwhelming feedback from families is to do whatever we can to open, and stay open, full-time, and in-person. We value your input and have continued to review guidance from the New York State Education Department and the Monroe County Department of Public Health, along with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
In order to open fully, and taking into consideration the health and safety of all students and staff, the following precautions will be in place when school opens in Webster on September 8:
Universal masking when indoors for all students and staff regardless of vaccination status. Mask breaks will be incorporated throughout the day.
Universal masking is necessary indoors to help us better avoid mass quarantining of students and staff.
Masking will be optional when outdoors.
Physical distancing of 3 feet in classrooms.
Physical distancing of 6 feet when eating.
Hand washing reminders to students, and explicit hand washing instruction for our youngest students.
Hand sanitizing stations available.
Sanitizing rooms, buses, and high traffic areas regularly.
Mandatory masks on buses with windows open to increase air flow.
Limited visitors to school, especially when school is in session.
The district is committed to providing a safe environment for your children and our staff, while returning to normal as much as possible. Therefore, this year we will be:
Looking to offer academic field trips, when possible and safe
Allowing extracurricular clubs, activities, and athletics, with additional guidance coming for music and athletics
Allowing in-person open houses and back to school events
All of the above will require indoor universal masking and whenever possible, distancing. The district will continue to review and adjust these protocols as the school year progresses. We will continue to work with our county health department to identify the metrics required to relax our layers of mitigation.
If you have questions about our opening plan, we are asking that you submit those questions using this form. On Monday, August 23 at 6:00 p.m., we will post a video on our website answering submitted questions. We will continue to update a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document linked here.
Finally, next week we will be surveying families to ask who will be using district transportation and who plans to drive their children to school. This will help us plan our exact arrival and dismissal procedures.
Please continue to check your email for weekly opening updates. I’m thankful for our entire district community as we work together to welcome our children back to school.
All my best,
Brian Neenan
Interim Superintendent
