Patterson Elementary

Parent Blast - May 9, 2022

We Appreciate You!

We will be celebrating all of our wonderful volunteers this week, with special recognition on Wednesday, May 11th, at our Booster Club meeting. We recognize that it has been challenging to volunteer during the pandemic and we are truly grateful for every support and act of service in support of our school and community. We will have a small token of our appreciation ready for each volunteer throughout the week and at our Booster Club meeting that evening. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

Here to serve,

Jamie Lentz

Pokemon Cards, Fidgets and Toys at School

Recently we have seen an uptick in toys, Pokemon cards and fidgets at school. We want to remind our students and families that cards and toys should remain at home and not come to school. Often these items are distracting in the classroom, get lost or stolen, or are traded when students do not yet have a clear understanding that items will not be returned. Please review this with your child and double check backpacks.

Fidgets are allowed for students who need them as a support for their learning. Typically these are documented in a formal support plan and students have a specified 1-2 items for this. If your child does not need a fidget to support their learning, we ask that they keep them at home.

Water Bottles

Water bottles are still encouraged at school and are kept in the classroom and are allowed to be taken to P.E. as well. Please make sure your child's water bottle is clearly marked with their name.

Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, dedicated to celebrating the achievements and contributions of Asians and Pacific Islanders of the United States. Originating after U.S. Congress action in 1997, this commemoration serves to highlight the vastness of the Asian and Pacific Islander communities, which spans more than 30 countries where over 100 different languages are spoken, and where the experiences are equally as varied. From the migration stories to their stories of colonial resistance, the work of prominent figures such as Dr. Haunani Kay Trask, Carols Bulosan, Yuri Kochiyama, Grace Lee Boggs, Pauline Park and Justice Mary I. Yu reflects the continued resilience of these communities and identities.

Mrs. McClain Wins Patterson $7,000 Grant!

Huge shout-out to Stephanie McClain for her work on a $7,000 grant to put in a production studio. We plan to use the small group room at the end of the intermediate hallway and will be adding a green screen and sound-proofing in addition to the purchase of production equipment and software. This will initially be set up for our morning announcements crew, but eventually will open up to our whole school for use.

5th Grade Science Test

We have decided to push back our state science testing to Thursday and Friday of this week.

Breakfast & Lunch Charity Account

Did you know we have a breakfast and lunch charity account for Patterson students and families? This account is used if a child needs an additional lunch or breakfast (food disparity), to teach students self-management skills (how to eat specific foods) and to pay off negative balances when families don't have the means to.

If you would like to donate to our account, please do the following:

You can also write a check to Patterson Elementary School and write "Feed it Forward" in the memo line.

2022-2023 Class Placement

While we do not accept specific teacher requests, we do encourage parents to provide input in the form of an environmental input form (linked below). These are due on May 31st to be considered. Each grade level, along with our support specialists, will work together to place students into balanced classes. Please respect our teacher's time and focus on this year's classroom and students by not reaching out regarding placement in a specific class.
