Black History Month Celebration

"Hidden Figures" Movie Outing
21 of our high school students attended the movie "Hidden Figures" on an Early Release Day. This movie is about a team of African-American women mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the US Space program.
Celebrating Black History Month
We watched videos throughout the month of February about achievements by black Americans and recognizing the central role of African Americans in history. The videos were from this website:

Welcome Kate Fedder!!! UNC Chapel Hill Nurse Intern for 2nd semester.
We are so excited to have Ms. Fedder working with us on Wednesday's this semester. She graduated from UNC with a degree in Journalism and has just started her graduate school nursing program at UNC. Ms. Fedder is located in the school counseling office. She is a great new asset to our high school team!
Random Acts of Kindness
Pie sales success!
On December 14th, we presented Lucas with $450 we raised for his family. He just completed his treatments at Duke the week before. We hope for a full recovery and we are grateful for the opportunity to help out his family!

Monroe & Family Gift Box
Students and faculty made cards and gave gifts to Ms. Williams, our Math teacher, to show our support of her and her family. Ms. William's brother, Monroe, was in a bad car accident at the end of first semester. He was in a rehabilitation center in Atlanta, but recently returned home.
Myers Briggs Type Indicator
Students took a Myers Briggs Personality assessment online to learn more about themselves. We then had fun with finding Harry Potter characters that corresponded to the 16 personality types.
Social Media and Technology Parent Night
Jessie Roney, UNC Chapel Hill School Counseling intern is hosting an event for 6th through 10th grade parents. A pizza dinner will be provided, along with a lot of great information for parents to help keep their children safe while encouraging digital citizenship.

To go along with our Social Media Safety focus, we posted a reminder to students to THINK before posting on Social Media
