Positivity Project- Connection & Purpose

This week we are focused on the character strength of Connection and Purpose

Connection/purpose gives individuals the sense that they are put on this earth for a reason and that they are somehow connected with humanity or the universe. People who possess a sense of purpose believe that they were put on earth for a reason. That reason can have all kinds of variety. It could be to create a unique invention, to bring joy through art or music, or to raise their children to become good people. These people have a true calling.appreciation, connection/purpose, gratitude, hope, and humor.

The parent virtue of connection and purpose is Transcendence. These strengths allow people to rise above their troubles and find meaning in the larger universe. Strengths of transcendence are appreciation of beauty and excellence, connection/purpose, gratitude, hope/optimism, and humor.

Use these quotes, videos and character card to discuss the character strength with your children.

"Each one of us can make a difference. Together me make change." ~Barbara Mikulski

"Everyone has a purpose in life and a unique talent to give to others." ~ Kallam Anji Reddy

Field Day

May 10 is our Field Day! We are in need of a few volunteers. If you are willing to lend a hand and help out with the event, please sign up to help by following this link. In addition, teachers will be reaching out to find parents that can directly support each classroom as they transition from event to event.

We have planned the schedule to have K-2 in the morning from 9:30-11:30, and 3-5 in the afternoon 1-3. Lunches will be shifted in order to accomodate the day.

No School - May 1!!

Buckhorn Creek Elementary and all Wake County Public Schools will be closed for students on Wednesday, May 1 due to a large number of teachers attending a rally at the General Assembly. Students will not need to make up this time based on the number of instructional hours already accumulated this year. Thank you for your support.

From our PTA!!

Our PTA is now accepting nominations for officer positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer for next school year. If you or anyone you know is interested in serving, please see the attached packet and return to or the school office no later than the end of the day on Wednesday, May 8th.

Volunteer and Lunch Bunch Change!

On May 28th, we are going to implement a no volunteer and no lunch bunch policy for the remainder of the year. We begin EOG testing for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students during this time. Limiting the number of guests will help ensure the best possible testing environment for our students. They have all worked hard and we want them to do their best. Thank you for your understanding.

EOG Information

3rd, 4th, and 5th grade families should take a moment to review the two letters below. Both letters are set to go out formally next Tuesday, April 30, in the Tuesday folders. However, we wanted to provide families with this information as soon as possible.

The first letter is general information about EOG testing for this year.

The second letter pertains specifically to the renorming of the scoring process for the Math EOG; delaying results until August, 2019.
