Practice Gratitude

Focus on Get to vs. Have to -

Who knew that two simple words could change one’s mindset, perspective and approach to work and life? Just two words have the potential to enhance joy, productivity, and performance, and to change a complaining voice to an appreciative heart.

Hello Ponies- A little share about Mrs. Ulman

Family seems to be a reoccurring theme…

At the end of summer break, I moved both my children back to their universities situated in the mountains – Sophia in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, and Harris on the outskirts of the Boston Mountains deep in the Ozarks, both beautiful places for me to visit.

Sophia graduated from Duke University in May with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. She is now attending Virginia Tech in Blacksburg having received a NIOSH Fellowship to pursue her Ph.D. in engineering.

Harris is entering his sophomore year at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville pursuing a business degree at the Walton School of Business. He is currently interested in logistics.

We enjoy doing things together like hiking, paddle boarding, following college sports, movies, and spending time with their fun-loving grandparents. I am so blessed and proud to be their mom.

A MESSAGE FROM THE INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALISTS:

Hello,

We will have our first Data PLC this Thursday (9/22). Our Data PLCs will occur during Thursday's planning time for Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Teachers in first through fifth grades, please bring your "pinks and blues" with you to the Data Hub (the pink and blue forms generated at the end of last year, and shared at the beginning of this school year). Begin thinking about some students who are not in RTI that will benefit from receiving supplemental instruction above your Tier I differentiated instruction.

Consider the following supplemental support in the areas of:

  • Comprehension
  • Fluency
  • Phonological Awareness and Decoding
  • Writing and Spelling
  • Place Value
  • Number Concepts

We will collaborate with our administrative team to help structure supplemental intervention groups. These groups will be served by our amazing instructional support team including our LAS/ESL paras, Special Education paras, Bilingual paras, and Title I tutors.

We will use materials such as:

Kindergarten team, please consider the following:

  • Students struggling with writing their name
  • Students struggling with letter/sound recognition
  • Students demonstrating large gaps in academic learning compared to typical peers

A message from the counselors

I know that many of you are eager to begin your Pony Pal adventure for this year. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Here are your assignments (below). However, please notice that there are a few kiddos that still need an adult to be a mentor, listening ear and a kind voice once a week. If you will thoughtfully consider mentoring one of these, PLEASE let me know asap. Thank you!

LHS Homecoming is ONE Month Away

The annual Homecoming Parade in Old Town Lewisville is set for Wednesday, Oct. 19 with a 6 p.m. start. A community pep rally at City Hall will immediately follow. The homecoming float theme for Lewisville Elementary will be 'Finding Dori'. You are welcome to bring candy and decorations.

Mr. Potato Head is back to celebrate our "No Tardy Taters."

Teachers, please remember to add one piece to your Mr. Potato Head for each day your class has no tardies. When your class has ten (10) days with no tardies, they will receive a small prize. Simply send me an email and I'll bring the prize to your classroom with words of praise.

If you are new to Lewisville Elementary and have not located a Mr. Potato Head in your classroom, simply let me know. I'll get one to you ASAP.

Best wishes,

Wanda
