Mother Nature's Plan
compost happens
imitate nature as much as you can
plant the proper plant at the proper time in the proper place
take care of your soil, it is the earth's stomach
Easiest first step
Leave grass clippings on your lawn instead of bagging and sending off to the landfill. They are a dessert for the soil and will decompose rapidly. Grass clippings do not cause thatch build-up; it is caused by the use of high nitrogen fertilizers.
Make your own compost pile!
The easiest way to compost is to simply pile your grass clippings and leaves in an out of the way corner and let it decompose overtime.
Make your own compost better and faster!
The compost process speeds up when the pile is turned and kept moist. Alternating layers of leaves and grass clippings is a good idea!
