Cedar Grove Friday Flash
January 3, 2020
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
Happy New Year! It was so nice to welcome back our students after the winter break. We hope you had a wonderful holiday season, and we look forward to continuing to provide your children with the best possible education and learning environment.
Part of your child's learning includes the use of appropriate technology into the taught curriculum. In order to continue using online digital tools with students, we need parental consent. The following communication was sent to parents prior to the break regarding your child's access and use of online digital tools. Parent permission for use of these tools is required. If you have not done so already, please read the following message and respond by January 10, 2020. Thank you.
In our classrooms, we utilize a variety of online digital tools to reinforce what is taught; they may be used for students to present/publish; for review; and for teacher assessment. These tools have been evaluated to be safe for student use and are consistent with federal laws of student data privacy. MCPS requires your consent to allow your student(s) to use these tools as they may collect personally identifiable student information, such as first and last name, classroom teacher, or grade level. The information is typically collected by online digital tools to enable the tool to track student progress. You only need to provide consent once unless your child moves to another MCPS school.
You are welcome to explore the descriptions of the Online Digital Tools with links to their terms of service and privacy policies. However, not all tools are used by each grade level or teacher. Your child's teacher can provide more information about which of the tools listed may be used this year.
Additional information on MCPS' data privacy practices are also available.
If you choose not to provide consent to use the supplemental tools, alternative instructional activities will be provided.
Please submit one consent form for each student attending Cedar Grove ES by January 10, 2020 so that we can begin the third marking period with this important information. You will have the option, after submitting the consent form, to complete another consent form for another child.
Have a great weekend!
