Happy Friday Wildcat Families!
I want to address a few questions that we have had regarding attendance and grading.
ATTENDANCE: Please see the detailed notes below. Teachers are required to take attendance every period, every day, and they should be clearly explaining to students how they are determining attendance for each period. If students are not sure about attendance for any period, they should reach out to the teacher. In this period of distance learning, when we are not able to see the students in person, we understand that there are many extenuating circumstances, so communication is crucial. Taking attendance is a form of communication as it allows teachers to relay to parents and to administration whether or not students are present in their classes, and it allows us to identify if there are students we need to reach out to with resources and support.
GRADES: Canvas is not yet integrating, or "talking to" Aeries, so you will not see any grades yet in Parent Portal or Student Portal. Students should continue to look for grades in their Canvas courses. If a student has difficulty submitting an assignment, they should reach out to the teacher to let them know. Teachers are still learning how to best use the grading features in Canvas, so please be patient and communicate.
Thank you again for your partnership, and have a wonderful weekend!
Go, Wildcats!
Sincerely,
Heather Golly

RMS School Site Council
Hello Wildcat Parents and Guardians,
Now more than ever our school needs your support, we need your leadership and voice at the table (or Zoom ). The School Site Council (SSC) allows you to work alongside RMS staff in the development of plans and budgets that have a direct impact on your child. I have worked with Principal Golly for the last 2 years and I can speak from experience how receptive she is to parent input and how plans we made together were put into action. A member of RMS’ SSC will also have an opportunity to sit at the District Parent Advisory Committee (DPAC) where decisions are made district wide. If this sounds appealing to you, I urge you consider a nomination for this council.

Canvas Resources
Canvas is our new learning management system, and it has some really wonderful features for students, teachers, and parents! You can monitor your student's progress and work by "pairing as an observer" in Canvas. Follow these easy steps to find your pairing code and set up your account!
How to generate a pairing code to join as an observer
- Have your child open their Canvas account through Cloud Connect.
- Go to Account > Settings> Pair with an observer (right side of the screen)
- Then view this video to set up a parent account.
Download the Canvas App to have easy access from your smartphone or device. Please note that if you are using the Canvas App, you will type in "Vista USD" when it prompts you for school or district. Select "Vista USD- Parent," and then you will create your account.

RMS Spirit Week!
Be a part of this year's first Spirit Week! Dress up to show your spirit, and take photos of your participation! We will share our weekly challenge on Monday's Rtv episode during Wildcat Connections!
Attendance Matters!
Students are considered "present" if they log in to their scheduled Live Zoom meetings each day (synchronous) AND if they log on and complete any work during their Learning Options & Work Time (asynchronous) periods.
If students complete work early in a Learning Options & Work Time period, they can log in early for a different period and continue independently with their work in that class. The intention is for each student to log in to each of their classes every day and make progress on their classwork.
New Attendance Codes:
A = absent
1 = present for a live Zoom meeting
2 = present for an asynchronous period (by logging into the class on Canvas and working on classwork)
Remember, absences must be cleared within 72 hours (3 school days) after student returns to school. If your student was accidentally marked absent or if you are planning a trip in which your student will miss 5 or more school days, please notify the attendance two weeks in advance to set up an independent study contract.
Please know that these attendance procedures are new, and there will be some adjustments that we are still making. If you have any concerns, please communicate with your student's teacher or with our attendance office (760) 726-8003 x63020 or yeseniabeas@vistausd.org

Family and Community Liaison
It is a pleasure to be in touch with our Wildcat families again. Despite beginning our school year 2020-2021 with some challenges, this will not prevent us from offering virtual workshops to our parents.
We will continue to offer Vista Teen Outreach food resources beginning next week, starting with a smaller number than usual, but hope to increase it little by little according to our community’s needs.
Email your Roosevelt Family and Community Liaison Ms. Gabby Thompson, gabrielathompson@vistausd.org or dial extension 63013 if you would like to join a workshop or for suggestions on future ones, or to make an appointment for assistance with any other matters or help with resources.
