Contacting J/J During the School Interruption
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
The Mansfield Public Schools are preparing to welcome our students back in September and we look forward to their return. For the past several weeks, we have been educating based on the Essential Prerequisite Standards for learning that were identified by DESE (the Department of Secondary and Elementary Education).
At Jordan/Jackson, our staff conducted an inventory of which Prerequisite Standards were covered prior to closure, along with which Remote Learning week each of the remaining standards were integrated into the plans. We are confident in the steps we took to ensure that our students are prepared for the next grade level.
In addition:
Term 2 Report Cards were sent home the day of closure (March 13). Prerequisite Standards covered prior to Remote Learning were graded on the report card.
Remote Learning Plans for all weeks will remain on the Jordan/Jackson Remote Learning Site throughout the summer for students to access for additional practice.
Term 3 / EOY Report Cards:
As previously mentioned, Term 2 Report Cards were sent home the day of closure (March 13).
Per the MA DESE guidelines during remote learning from March 16 to June 18, students’ learning progress has been monitored but not graded and will be used to support the transition to the next grade level.
As a result, grading “blocks” on the report card for Term 3 will be empty.
Staff will include an overall comment regarding their work with each student this year and additional thoughts and considerations related to their progress.
Families will receive a Term 3/End-of-year Report Card in the mail, the week of June 22.
Planning for academic transitioning to the next grade
As we proceed through the placement process, staff will group students with all “routine” placement factors in mind.
Curriculum leaders and teams will make strategic adjustments to curriculum and assessment pacing for the 2020/2021 School Year.
To begin the year, school-wide and grade-specific common assessments will guide our instructional approach as they do each year.
Robinson and Jordan/Jackson staff members have and will continue to collaborate regarding the second- to third-grade transition.
During Remote Learning, we have taken advantage of Online Learning Software subscriptions we utilize throughout each school year. They clearly provide a valuable source of data, with various assessment features that enable staff to synthesize classroom information efficiently.
Whether in-person or remotely we understand that this data is relative to the structure of the software programming. Our curriculum common assessment data, other school-wide data, MCAS and Staff evaluations of student progress are prioritized sources of information for assessing student growth.
Student Engagement Measures/Documentation
The aforementioned software data is also one source of measuring student engagement. Additionally, our staff utilized an internal engagement rating system similar to the Behavior/Effort Report Card Rating. This indicator is being collected internally and considered alongside other student information.
Engagement Ratings:

As always, we are available to answer any questions or discuss any concerns you may have regarding your child’s transition.
Take care,

CHROMEBOOKS FOR THE SUMMER
Jordan/Jackson students who borrowed a school chromebook should keep their chromebook over the summer. Students are reminded that these devices are intended for educational use and they should bring them to school when we return in the fall. Please note: more communication will come in the future about our chromebook 1:1 program for next year. If you have any questions, please email John Nieratko or Denise daGraca.
Transitioning from 2nd Grade to 3rd Grade
Principal Nieratko will host a virtual orientation for families on Wednesday, June 17 at 7:00 PM. A link to the June 17th event will be posted on our website and social media.
Keeping with the tradition of 2nd-grade students meeting with 3rd-grade students, this year it will be done virtually! Robinson and Jordan/Jackson teachers will "buddy-up" via Google Meets. Students can ask questions and learn about Jordan/Jackson.
