Residential Construction Students Build Storage Facility at Star Elementary
At the conclusion of the third school quarter, students participating in residential construction through Career and Technical Education are celebrating work accomplished and looking forward to next steps.
From instructor William Albertson:
- Roofing is complete.
- Electrical rough-in has been completed and inspection passed. Students had a great opportunity to work alongside a great team from Rocky Mountain Electric.
- They bent EMT, pulled wire, drilled holes, set boxes, ran, and terminated MC all through the guidance of journeyman and apprentice electricians. After two weeks, they now have a little insight into the electrical field with several considering it as a career after high school.
- Most of the siding has been installed. We are waiting for delivery of our entry doors to complete siding.
- We are currently working on prepping (forming and backfill) the site for exterior concrete, apron on the north and west sides of the building and 2’ strip along the east and south walls.
- The heater is on order once it is installed, we will begin insulation followed by drywall and paint. I am in the process of working with a local drywall company to work with the program on hanging and tape/texture as every opportunity we can give these kids to learn from industry professionals is important.
