Charlie Gordon
In The Beginning
Charlie was an unintelligent 37 year old. Even though he was unintelligent he was also hard working. In the text it says, “I tryed hard but I still couldnt find the picturs I only saw the ink.” (Keyes 34) He also is very honest. In the text it says In the text it said, I didn’t spill the ink on the cards…”(Keyes 35) That showed that he was trying to be honest about spilling the ink.
After the Operation
Charlie started becoming more intelligent, and smarter. In the text you can see that he is spelling better and with bigger words, “Even a feeble minded man wants to be like other men.”(Keyes 53) This shows that he now has a wider vocabulary. In the text it says, “Dr.Strauss on the other hand might be called a genius, although I feel that his areas of knowledge are too limited. He was educated in the tradition of narrow specialization; the broader aspects of background were neglected far more than necessary even for a neurosurgeon. I was shocked to learn that the only ancient languages he could read were Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, and that he knows almost nothing of mathematics beyond the elementary levels of calculus of variations."(Keyes 51) This shows that he isn't impressed by how smart Dr. Strauss is even though he is a genius.
