HAUTAPU SCHOOL PANUI
24 March 2023
Week 8, Term 1
Principal's Message
Amongst the challenges of staff illness and finding relievers, we have had many highlights this week.
Monday kick started our week off with Senior Swimming Sports. The weather was on our side for once! The values of Community, Courage and Challenge were on show for all to see. I loved witnessing the high fives and words of encouragement from so many of our students and staff. The parent feedback was fantastic regarding the new organisation. Thank you to Stephanie Barr and her team for offering a range of competitive, non-competitive and fun House Relays that were created and led by students. Despite absences for illness, we had the highest number of senior students attend school on a Swimming Sports Day.
The week ended on a high too with a group of Junior High students from Odate, Japan. This was our first visit from Odate since 2019; another small step towards ‘normality’. I was so proud of our students for the way they interacted and showed manaakitanga (respect, generosity and care) towards our guests. The Rural Tour Company guides are always full of praise for our students and staff. We’re honoured to be the only school they visit during their time in New Zeland. Thank you to Rebecca Silcock and Stephanie Barr for organising such a lovely opportunity for our students. Thank you also to our Year 7/8 families for providing fruit and baking today. It was much appreciated.
